1939/42 LUGER NEEDS TO BE REFINISHED

HI HERE ONE MORE PICTURE,
BOB

Its hard for me to tell from the pictures, but if no additional buffing is warranted, if it is just a matter of additional time in the hot tanks to get rid of the purple color, try hot bluing until color is reached....no harm in trying

BLUING

HI THE PISTOL WAS BLUED AND HALF OF IT HAS THE PURPLE COLOR IN IT. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT RESTORED.

Additional photos would help, perhaps no additional buffing would be required just degrease and hot blue, I am months behind and recovering from Right hand surgery, but I believe I could bail you out of this duel tone Luger.

Bob,

Do you know for a fact that this gun was reblued? The plum color is an effect which authentically shows up occasionally on salt-blued Mauser Lugers blued in a bath which is the wrong temperature or chemical composition.

It would be a shame to remove the original finish due to a misunderstanding.

BLUED LUGER

I AM NOT SURE THAT THIS FINISH ON THIS PISTOL IS CORRECT OR REBLUED. IF IT IS CORRECT I WILL LEAVE IT AS IS. I NEED MORE HELP FROM LUGER COLLECTORS. IWIIL TRY TO SEND MORE PICTURES FOR YOU.
THANK YOU
BOB

Bob, I agree with Dwight that what I see in your photos appears to be an original, overheated salt blue of the period. TH

policeluger 03-06-2007 11:00 AM

Lugerdoc....I believe it was under heated....

LUGERS FINISH

I HAVE A FEW LUGERS IN MY COLLECTION. AND I KNOW ALITTLE ABOUT THEM THEM. AND I SURE DO NOT WANT TO RESTORE THIS LUGER IF IT IS CORRECT. I HOPE SOME OF THE MEMBERS ON THIS FORUM CAN TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO.

I have an original 1939 Code 42 with a purple receiver and would agree with Dwight that yours could very likely be the original finish. Post some pictures of the left side with the side plate installed so that we can get a better look at whether or not it appears that the edges are rounded off from polishing like many post war re-blues.

luger finish

HI LYN,
DOES YOUR 1039/42 LUGER HAVE A SHINE TO IT? MINE DOES.
I THINK I HAVE A PICTURE WITH THE SIDE PLATE ON IT.
BOB
