Gun Rack
I wanted to get an opinion on "storing" Lugers on a gun rack. I just purchased ( and then realized I should have asked before buying), a 6 pistol table top hard rubber coated gun rack from Cabelas. They state the rack will not cause marring (rust, etc.) of the guns.
What's your thought on the subject? At first thought of buying a safe but was concerned about moisture. I am storing the Lugers in my lockable steel desk using the gun rack as a way of " keeping them out of harm's way" so to speak. Oh, for those who may be interested, the rack is pictured on Cabelas web site. Thank you. While I'm at it, anyone know where I can get a metal trigger for a Colt Govt MK IV 380? I just acquired and shot this little gun. Nice gun for concealed weapon use. Added it to my Colt 380 Pony Pocketlite collector piece. |
I store mine in a vault I built myself. I use pegboard and the metal rods you can get that goes on them. Smaller diameter for .22 and larger for bigger bores. Then cut them to length and coat them with "Dip-It" and electrical tape to protect the bore. This probably won't work for you though but it might give you some ideas.

Gun safes are expensive and never hold enough. I'm up to five and need more. Care to share your vault building expertise with the rest of us? |
Well David, I used what I had to my best advantage. There's a corner of my basement that provides me with a standard sized closet with block on three sides, the corner of the basement and the wall of the chimney. Over that I bolted and welded steel plates and custom made a door using steel pipes as locking bolts. The mechanism isn't something I want to make public knowledge but know that I dont' use a key or keypad for locking. :)
Without some serious welding equiment and lots of time, no one is getting into this sucker without my say so... :D If you have access to large sheets of steel and welding equipment, it only takes time and ingenuity. |
This is my storage room. The bank door, which also has an inner door, came from an old Idaho bank. I have had it in three houses. It is now in a finished basement room. The room was built with no windows and heavy mesh in the walls, with studs on 8" centers. The room contains my firearms and my wife's depression glass collection.

Hi Gundude and Wlyon.
Used to like you, being members of this Forum and friendly and so on...... Untill you both posted these pics of your gun collection; now I'm sitting here behind my PC....... in tears.... :crying: :D If you would see the 5 guns we are allowed overhere.... you would laugh and feel sorry for me. (I hope) :D When I bought my first Luger I had to get rid of another one first; just to make room for the Luger on my permit. Few days ago I came across a nice '72 6'' Mauser at a good price... had to let it go by because I don't want to sell any of my other guns. On topic; my vault/safe isn't this big...... ;) Peet. |
Steve I like your wheel guns. I own several and wouldn't trade them for all the Glocks etc made.Nice collection.
Peet. Sorry about your collecting problems. I suppose someday we will be restricted also. Probably not in my lifetime but..... Bill |
Bill, that's one sweet vault door you have there! Very, very nice. It leads to a much larger area than mine too. Very nice collection you have there too. Daddy like...:) I also like how you've collected your guns and your wifes targets all in the same place... :D (kidding, of course)...
Peet, I'm sorry for your collecting distress. But at least you can still buy some guns. Five is better than none... I guess I should take some pictures of the longarms too. Nahh... save it for another time... :) |
More room!
Hey Bill,
You goodie room is seriously overcrowded, you need more room! SO, please send me all of your old dusty German guns. I still have alittle room in my safe!! Mike:D :D |
Hey, Peet.........Isn't your wife allowed another five guns? And how about other family members? With a little American ingenuity you should be able to get your hands on a room full of guns.

As a matter of fact... my wife did have a permit herself a few years ago. But the problem is; when you have a permit you have to join a club (no real problem) you have to show up there at least 18 times per year AND whenever you let someone shoot your guns you have to be present there at the range. ;) Not gonna work..... Peet. |
18 times a year? For me that wouldn't be a problem as I go all the time, but the thing that would piss me off is the government making up these arbitrary rules for not other purpose than to tell me what to do.
Who's bright idea was that? If you have his phone number, I've heard that AT&T has a new service called "Reach out and Slap Someone". I'd be glad to give him a call for you... :D |
