Rob, I've found 115 or 124 grain bullets work the best in Lugers. Just make sure they hard cast and drive them at the same velocity as jacketed bullets. If you don't cast bullets yourself, try some Laser Cast bullets From Baker Oregon. I don't have the address right with me but if you want it I'll find it and get back to you. They will also send you free sample bullets to load and test to see which will work the best. Darrell

Re: lead bullets in a luger

Many 9x19 pistols will shoot very poorly with leadbullets as teh rifleing twist is wrong for lead.

The old standard twist was around 1-10 and the twist used by smith in their revolvers and matchbarrel producers is normally around 1-16.

SO dont expect to much out of your gun with lead.

I have shoot a bit of lead, but i am using a custombarrel with the right rifleing.

Hakan has an excellent point. In addition when you field strip the luger you are gonna have one hell of time fishing out all the lead fouling in the chamber, top, back and sides, and in between the frame and barrel assembly. good luck!

Rob & Chip, As I recall from my 9mm reloading day, when using lead bullets, you must reduce the powder load. Please check your reloading manual.

Yes it's 1-16 (EOM)
