7.65 commercial, what might it be worth
 

I have a 30 cal Luger that I have had sitting in my safe for years and was wondering if anyone might be able give me some imformation about it and what it might be worth.

I was told that the crown over an N ment it was a commercial. It's has a 4 digit serial number with a samll m below it. It's a short barrel, 3-5/8" long. It has the DWM mark on top.

I believe its all original, the condition is fair to good. There is no rust or pitting, but there are some nick and dings.

I also have a holster, two clips with aluminum bottoms and the holster has a small tool that fits under the flap.

Welcome to the forum.

Your commercial without extras, would probably sell for $500-$700+ in "good" condition if 80-85% overall with no pitting. Is the holster marked in anyway? Are the magazines and tool marked or numbered? Also, condition of holster and mags? This could make a big difference in there value alone.

The holster is in fair condition, need some of the straps re-stitched. One of the clips has some numbers on it but the other does not.

One mag has a little rust on it, a very small about. One of the aluminum bottoms has a small pin in it and the other does not.

The bore look good. As far as how it shoots, I have never fired it.

I take it it's not marked 'GERMANY'. This would imply a commercial made for the German home market. Does it have a date over the chamber? How much finish would you say is on it?

is the tool marked or unmarked? a "lucky" find of a tool can make the tool worth from $10 for a repro, to "normal" price of $50, shoot up to $150 for a rare variation...

Any marks on the holster?

The gun does say Germany on the right side at the front of the breach. As far as any marks or names on the holster, there are none. The tool has nothing on it as well, just groves and one small mark that looks like someone hit it with a sharp edge.

There is no date on it. The finish is fair, but that's my opinion. It doesn't look like it's ever been reworked. There is a slight amount of barrel wear from the holster. The blueing is 60% or more.

I just paid $700 for my .30 Import. It was in about 75%. The dealer wanted more as a reserve but he did haggle at the end of the auction.

How is the safety area marked on your pistol? Is it marked "GESICHERT" or "LOADED"?

When did they start marking the guns "loaded"?

(LOADED) was put on the extractors of most M1906 American Eagles.

Your Luger is what is referred to as a DWM Alphabet Commercial (four-digits plus letter suffix). The m suffix places its manufacture in about late 1923-early 1924. Could you please report the full number?

The GERMANY stamp on the receiver puts it in compliance with the U.S. Tariff Act of 1890 requiring the country of origin to be marked on foreign-made goods.

There is come confusion here about markings. The safety area will probably be marked GESICHERT; the unlikely option is that it may be marked SAFE. It is the extractor which is likely marked GELADEN but may be marked LOADED.

Mike C is correct about the 1906 American Eagle models usually having a LOADED extractor. At the end of the 1906 commercial model production in 1913 the LOADED extractor went out of use except for specific orders.

Were the firing pins stamped with the last two digits of the SN?

The firing pin is unnumbered on my instance. I assume it should not be numbered ..... because a catalog book says it's numbered.;) Never mind, a bad joke. It's unnumbered.

Roger that. The fellow wants $599 for it. The straw is light and the over all blue is probably 90%. Grips have strong checkering. It looks to be a fair price. I am going to get the SNs this week to nail down the date.
