Mauser K98k Where to Find?

Is there any good source for a mint condition completely matched Mauser K98k rifle? I keep looking and find losts of Russian captures, then other comparatively nice examples all of which have a mismatch in one way or another.

Thank you for any reply, David

I think not. These are all in collections are still in the estate of the vet that brought it back. Do not get fooled by the ads by "Mitchell Mausers". You need to find a collector and be ready to pay the price. My guess is a very low of $600 up $1200 would get a good example.

they pop up occasionally on Gunbroker.com. Depending upon what you are looking for, a good Czech "prod.44" may be an option. Basically a German k98 that was manufactured at the captured factory using a mix of nazi parts and new production parts. I bought one for my son a while back for about $250.00 that was all matching. A good minty k98k will run about $1,000+ depending on mfg and condition, but all matching well used examples can still be found from $500 up.

here's one I've actually bid on. It should go eventually for about $700.00

I am grateful for the responses, thus far!

Trigger, I did look at the offer on GunBroker. The seller says all matching but makes no comment about matching numbers on stoke, barrel bands and the like. It is at least interesting that the safety has the same last two digits as the number stated to be the serial number.

I may send him a question about it.

Try FGS. Tell them exactly what you want and you will get it.

They are getting tougher to find! I have been lucky to come across a couple. I picked up a beautiful all matching 1938 J.P. Sauer at the local gun shop.. (It was duffel cut.. and was priced as a 'project" gun.. :D I will not disclose what I paid, because I feel it would make some faint :) ) Regrettably I did end up selling it. But it went to a great collector so I'm happy.

This is a 1944 BYF I grabed on Gunsamerica. I contacted the seller within about 20 minutes of it being posted. And luckily I was the first because he had 5 calls shortly after mine. All matching except the Stock (and the lower screw is numbered but not matched, and from what I researched it should not be numbered anyway). I also added a nice original sling. Lastly, as you may know.. be VERY carefull.. with all the Russian captures that hit the market, tons of fakes are poping up.

Thank you kindly, WaltherGuy, for your information and you photos. I understand that these rifles are difficult to find in mint condition.

Very kindly, David

No prob David, they are getting a bit tricky. If you find one in Mint condition be prepared to pay top dollar. They are around though. Best bet would be to check Gun Broker, Guns america, auction arms daily. I've even found them burried under general catagories like "German Rifles." Best of Luck!! Love to see pics if you find one.
