Unfired luger for 30 years, need help ASAP
 

Hey guys,

I just picked up my first luger, a Interarms Mauser Parabellum from the 70's, which I don't suspect has been fired in at least 30 years.

I'm planning on shooting it a day from now, and I need quick advice on what to clean/oil to ensure the smoothest possible operation.

I'm a luger and handgun newbie, so any help provided would be greatly appreciated.

Don't take it all the way down. Just do a simple tear down, take the toggle pin out and clean it, wipe everything down with oil, bore the brush and brush the bore.


It it appears to operate, then you are good to go.

Hi,

Expect some 'break-in' firing to be needed. The blued parts need to wear in a bit to ensure smooth operation. Also the magazines can be a tad troublesome at times. I never got the original magazines to work properly in my 1972 Mauser. Switched to MecGars and no problems since.

I've never taken a gun apart before, so I'm a bit hesitant to take the luger apart...

Is there a written or video guide for how to do a simple tear down?

Push the upper section back just a bit without folding the toggle. Hold it there while you swing the take down lever so that it points downward. Remove the metal panel from the gun and let the upper section go. Slide ot forward and off of the frame.

That's about all you have to do to field strip it. Assembly is the same only backward.

Thanks for all the replies. I figured out how to take down the luger into the three pieces, but was afraid to go any farthur until I become more familiar. Those videos are very useful in showing what to expect, but I've found I need to use slightly different methods for my Interarms Mauser.

Anyway, the shooting trip planned for last Sunday had been cancelled due to weather, and it might be a while before I can get another one organized. I'll have plenty of time to become more familiar with my luger. :cool:
