Luger Engraving
I am having a pair of target Lugers made up with long barrels and adjustable sights from some 1920 Commercial shooters. I would like to have them engraved. I have found only a few photos of engraved P-08s,and none of them are appealing to me. Anyone out there have any photos of existing engraved guns or suggestions for engraving patterns? Thanks.

Frank, sounds cool. personally i like the light engraving using the acrons / leaves motiff (I do not have one myself), but I have thought the same thing.
Welcome to the forum! Please show pictures when you get done. ;) Ed |
This one sold on last year's James D. Julia auction. Cased for around $ 2100 I think...
I liked the work...as it was not "over-the-top" as some engraving patterns with nearly 100% coverage seem to be... http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...er_1_copy1.jpg http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...er_2_copy1.jpg |
Here is another one for sale at Martin Retting's gun shop in Culver City, CA.
I think it would have looked nicer with a non-gloss blue finish and straw more realistic in color that the "gold" used : http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...aved_luger.jpg |

Pete and Ed,
Thank you so much for your response. I like the pattern of the heavy-barreled target-sighted gun. You have been a great help! Frank |
Pete,
Can you give me the source for the photos I referred to ? I would love to see greater detail so that the engraver has more to work with. Frank |
Hi Frank,
Most of the photos I collected and posted, above, were just associated with a sales or auction house ads that appeared on the Internet over the past 2-3 years. No mention of whom actually did the engraving work. You might check out these engravers' association web sites : http://www.fega.com/ They have a big annual convention each year in Reno. NV...just happened last month. Here is another link : http://www.grstrainingcenter.com/instructors.html This photo scan was from a nicely done luger carbine showcased on the cover of the German Gun Collectors Association magazine. I bought back-copy of the magazine through their web site : http://www.germanguns.com/index.html http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload...bine_copy1.jpg |
Pete, I vote for #1
