Frame off Restoration 1900AE

1 Attachment(s)
When I got this 1900 AE it had been buffed lightly, hot blued, and some of the straw parts gold plated. I had the gold stripped off, the grips sent to Hugh, and the magazine sent to my new friend here in Phoenix, Gerry Tomeck.

I refinished the piece myself using the formula I put together (on a previous thread) and strawed the parts using the information I got from Howard Collins.

While I admit to some experience with rust browning and finishing muzzle loading rifles, my efforts with a luger are in the beginning stages.

I am very pleased with the results and thought I would share with the Forum Members.

Nicely done! You put some time into that puppy...and it shows.

Pete Ebbink 02-08-2007 04:17 PM

Great work, Chuck...

By chance do you have a "before" photo you could share ???

Chuckc 02-08-2007 04:41 PM

Unfortunately, I can find no before pictures. The finish was bright like you would expect a hot blue and only the trigger, take down lever and mag catch were gold plated. The other parts had been blued without taking the piece apart. Fortunately, the buffing was light and did not round off too many edges. I never thought it would turn out this nice. Pictures may not show it, but the color is right on.

Very nicely done. If you are going to be at the Phoenix CrossRoads Show later this month and if there is a possibility you might have it along, I, would like a closer look at it. We'll have a table in the main building.

Impressive work Chuck!
Not all restorations is for the best, but yours sure is.

Chuckc 02-16-2007 02:12 PM

Thanks for the comments and complements. I was out of touch for a week and am just now back.

Lyn, let me know where your table is and how I would recognize you and I will make an effort to make it to the show.

If any are in the Phoenix area, let me know and we could possibly hook up and share stories. I am still learning and most of it comes from the Forum.

So far, GT and Jack Hiles are the only other Forum Members I have actually met. I will make it to one of the big shows one of these days.

I had the opportunity to meet Chuck (a very nice guy) and to take a close look at his restoration handiwork this weekend at the Phoenix CrossRoads Show. All I can say is WOW!!!!! Chuck has done some beautiful work on this pistol and it looks better in person than in his excellent photos. Chuck brought along a restoration done by Thor and another restored Luger that came from a noted local distributor of original Lugers and Chucks work is as good as and better in some cases that the other two samples.
Bravo Chuck.

Chuck,

My loss this weekend at the Crossroads was not seeing your magnificent work. I wish I had seen it! Despite not seeing your work, the show was great although I sold my 40/42 Nazi Navy N/4063. Hated to see it go, but glad it went to a regular client of mine. What a beauty!

Chuck,

The Reno April show is not too far off.

I understand Jan Still may be there if his new book is ready for sales...

You will always meet a dozen or so LF members and other luger nuts...

Forgot to post the Reno Gun Show web site link :

BTW...got a voicemail from Jan Still today. He will not make the April Reno show as his publisher will not have his new books ready by then.

Jan is deciding what other future show he will attend to showcase his new book.
