It looks like the front sight has been modified. It shouldn't cover the chamber date.

do you mean rear sight?

The rear sight is off of a Mauser 98 Carbine. They did a good job of marrying it to the base.

The front sight isn't right either. It was standard to have a adjustible front sight on a 1915 and this one does not appear to be adjustible. (hard to tell from the pictures though) Even considering that, it just does not look right. There should be a base that elevates the sight. Frankly, this gun looks to be rebarreled. The parts that should be strawed look like they were blued. Bad buffing job on the rebluing of the gun. The locking bolt lever isn't right either. The checkered knob has been badly messed with. I think that that is enough on this gun. I pass on it.

If I had any interest in this gun, I would look at the rear toggle to see in an old P-08 sight was filed off. I would have to, physically, see the gun and take a close look to really tell. I think that it is a 'put-together' by someone trying to make more money off of an artillery. :grr:

it's an old rework made by an arsenal gunsmith for itself

it' was found in a stock of old firearms and was rusty
it was file-down and reblue without any knowledge in 1955

The TDL appears to be from either a M29 Swiss or a Swiss model Parabellum. TH

For me it looks like a k98 sight, put into German 1915 DWM, without receiver markings on right side but with a matching swiss TDL and magazine. And it doesn't end there.. some strange piece is placed behind the side plate (to improve mag release spring?) and the front of the barrel looks somewhat home made, making me lean towards a Schmeizer barrel made to fit the Luger. All probably done in a time where there was a lot more Lugers that people drawling over them..

..in short.. buy it! :D (as a LP08 looking shooter)
Not all modifications is made to enhance the value. I'm guessing a similar situation in France as we have here in norway.. It's often hard to sell a rare Krieghoff for more than a S/42 in same condition. So putting that much work into 'faking' a Luger would be rather silly. Looks like this Luger has it's own special history to tell, and if you're lucky, it's pleasant to shoot with as well. Just my two pfennig:)

btw. does the receiver have the notch for the rear sight? ..over the chamber, towards the barrel.

What is the Law in France on this type of pistol?
Is it classed as a pistol or a carbine?
Can you keep it at home and take it out to the range to shoot?
I am asking because we have some very strange FIREARMS laws in the UK

but being in the EU maybe one day we will get commonality.....

In the mean time I will continue to shoot my Luger, Lahti, PP etc at Bisley.

DCCuk we have a lot of problems here in France for collecting firearms
we have a list of 80 firearms we may collect it's only very scarce piece
at last we may collect pistols or gun made before 1871...

the auther way is to be a shooter you may have after un police inquiry 12 firearms (7 in military caliber and 5 in civil caliber) you have an autorisation for 5 years

after you have the legal way it's to send its to the Saint Etienne proof arsenal to be desactited ......the good way for current pieces but not for an
Krieghoff "P" serial ....
