OT: Wood care???

I am buying a fine Spanish handmade 12 ga. double. It has a build up of of English walnut oil (sticky). I do not want to damage the polished surface of the wood but do want to restore the natural look. Any good ideas??

TIA

I am not familiar with english walnut oil but have "restored" many old oil finishes on antique muzzloaders

Try boiled linseed oil and a rag ( you can add a small amount of turpentine to the linseed to speed drying) Put it on thick and rub it in with your palms until it get hot. Then take your rag and buff it to a sheen. Every couple of days for a month or so. I only takes a minute to work it in.

You will get a old style stain oil finish in time. These old finishes were not 100% waterproof so be careful

Johnny,

will this work on dirty artillery Luger stocks that have accumulation of all sorts of stuff after all these years?
