P08 Extractor
 

I am restoring a very nice pre-war P08 Navy Luger. The holdup is my inability to find an original extractor. At this point I would consider a replica, although it's the last thing I want to do. I am involved in a shooting club, and have always shot well with the Luger...unfortunately I'm out of commission until I locate the part. Thanks in advance for any help.

Does the navy use a different extractor than other years? What "model" is yours? 1904, 1908, 19xx, etc.

Is the extractor broken? As some forms of luger "restoring" is liable to knock the value in 1/3...

Contact our forum member Tom Heller (Lugerdoc). He should be able to get you a fresh extractor.

I can recommend the DDR surplus. Excellent quality.

Ed, Thanks so much for replying. I will get all the pertinent info together and send it to you. Right now a friend who is also a novice gunsmith is appraising it. To be honest, he isn't that familiar with Lugers and is stuck in his effort to put a value on it. I'm anxious to receive your comments once I get the information to you.

Yes, we are neighbors. I think about 35-40 minutes and I'd be there....what a small world it really is!

I'm pretty sure there are 2 different kinds of extractors, and I want to be sure I'm giving you the right info. I was going to visit the guy who has my Luger on Tuesday and make note of all the pertinent numbers. Then I'll get back to you, George.

Spencer, If your local sources don't come thru, I do have exc original PO8 externally numbered extractors available @$50 and new unnumbered DDR replacements @$35 or Sarco repros @$25. TH

Thanks so much for the reply. Am I correct in saying there are two different extractors? If yes, what numbering or other id would I look for so I can be certain of the right one?

The luger I have is a 1939 9mm Suhl.

Hook.. like in Captain Hook

Press down the extractor in front and slide it in, while pressing it down, gently insert the pin. If that don't work, perhaps some fitting is needed. Extractors are somewhat sensitive in that way.

There were two suhl manufacturers, simson (quit making in 1934) and Krieghoff.

I don't think it's a parts gun...looks to be virgin to me, and since it was made in 1939, Krieghoff must be the manufacturer. Also, it's a Navy issue; has the German "anchor" insignia.

My apologies for the run-around. I gave this pistol to a gunsmith with whom I've worked for years, but maybe he's led me to believe he knows more about Lugers than he really does. It's been over 6 months, and he tells me he is unable to find an extractor that works. He's honest, I believe, but maybe he is in the dark. He has helped me with several projects I've had, one involved a Carcano rifle, and he was able to come through. He just has been so dog-gone adamant that the "hole" and not a "hook" is supposed to be part of the extractor.

I think I'll mail you guys a donation today, as the site is certainly worth it.
