How Hard to find 1903 Commercial or GL Lugers?
How difficult would it be to find an original 1903 Commercial or any of the Lugers with GL on the back?
Does the Tulsa Show have a very good selection? |
Extremely difficult and rare (and very expensive)! I reckon any genuine 'GL' Luger will fetch $50k and up depending on the model. In regards to the M1903 (French) Commercial, this model in original collection normally fetches $40k-$45k. Ron can probably provide better information and price range regarding the M1903 model.
I have two genuine 'GL' Lugers in my collection which you can preview on my website. Be very careful with Lugers which 'GL' because the 'GL' hallmark has been faked in the past. Good luck, Albert |
There is one now on GunBroker....is it a fake?

I believe what Policeluger is referring to is the Phoenix Investment Arms 1906 "prototype" that has been offered for some time now also on the PIA website. Though its originality is "guaranteed" by Tom Etowski of PIA, a couple of questionable 1906 type "prototypes" were recently offered on the Rock Island Auction. I think one should take Albert's advice here and try to get all the expert advice, including posting photographs here on the Forum, before making such an expensive purchase.

Doc, Business must be good if you are hunting these rare ones. I doubt that you will find one on a table at any gun show, but Bob Simpson or Ralph S. can probably supply one for a price. Just make sure that you have an "iron clad" money back guarantee. TH

Absolutely correct, Tom. You've had some pretty nice stuff over the years yourself.
