Books on the Subject : LUGERS
 

Gentleman,

What books do you recommend on the Luger pistol? I have a couple but I was wondering if there was one or two that were "Must Haves" Remember I am not a collsetor but a shooter with an intrest(in Lugers), so a book full of proof marks and dates of manufacture would be pretty boring.

A few subscriptions to some of the handgun magazines would probably prove much more interesting. There aren't too many articles on shooting the Luger, but most of the articles are of a generic nature when it comes to shooting pistols.

They may well be excellent books but till I can get them on hard copy I will have to pass. I don't like the idea of not having complete access to something I pay for. I buy a book I can do anything I want to it. inclusing sell it or lend to friends. not possible with these e-books if I read the instructions correctly. shoot I can't even print out pages for reference! they disabble the print function! Sorry not for me. I buy it its mine Its not a rental.

hello, i just inherited a luger and have been on this web trying to find out all about it and not doing too bad. i also like to own and collect books. maybe we can get the titles from the guy who gave us the authors. i will try. lawrence frederick klang

One easy way to print out a portion of the e-books goes as follows:

Get the part you want on your screen.

Press Alt/Print Scrn (hold both keys down at the same time)

Click on the Start in the lower left of your screen.

Go up to Programs.

Go to Accessories.

Click on Paint.

Click on Edit at the top of the screen.

Click on Select All.

What was on your screen from the book now shows.

The print function in Paint will now print the screen. You may want to change to landscape orientation. It sounds complicated but it is a way to print virtually anything that you can get to show on your computer screen. You can also do anything that the Paint program allows before printing.

Deaf, "Lugers at Random" by Kenyon @ about $50, is still the most used Identification guide, althought Jan Still's three volumes @ about $60 each, are more up to date and go into more detail. I don't recommend most of the non-hard bound cheaper books, and some have a lot of mistakes and at best are incomplete. Tomh

Anybody can tell anything on a board ... freedom is freedom but I do confirm that our ebooks are fully printable.


Now, it is true one cannot resell it to a friend. But there are plenty of items on earth you cannot do anything you want with them even if you bought them ... try to take off with a broom between your legs and you will notice it is impossible.


Ebooks have their own particularities (including the posibility to have animated sequences) and one of them is to be bought for a fraction of paper books.

I tried to order your books today, (I am away from home on an extended contract) and the stupid authorization process told me I couldn't do it because it could tell my machine was too far away from my billing address! That's true, but why should that prevent me from buying your books? It just seems to me that this process is trying to be difficult... and succeeding. Sorry, I guess you lost this sale.

I think Gerard's e-books have a definite place...
 

and the price is certainly right, but you are trading some convenience. Having said that, I also believe that when you decide to conduct e-commerce, you need to make sure that the process is easy, because internet users don't need a big hassle... it's too easy to go elsewhere.

Hi Deaf! I agree with Tomh. but I would like to add my little 2 cents The Krieghoff Parabellum book by Gibson is interesting but I challenged a few facts in the book while I read it and the photography was horrible. I got the book. But if I lost it, I would not buy it again.


The "Luger Book" is an excellent book with a lot of good information in it. But sometimes the information is hard to find. There is not an index. Sometimes you have to just dig on you own. I make up my own index on articles the I find of particular interest to me at the back of the book. But I regard it as a must have for a serious Luger collector.


Reeses book "Luger Tips is an inexpensive good book. I found the price list at the end of the book, on Lugers that I probably will never see, facinated me. Plus it helped in giving me the privilege of talking to John Martz who is featured at the end of the book. But the book is limited in the Lugers that it covers. You get what you pay for in that respects.


Gortz and Walters' book "The Navy Luger" bored me. Too much about ships and did not break out the navy Lugers by model/year. Maybe I will reread it to see if I am mistaken.


If you have the three Stills books that tomh mentioned. The "Lugers at Random" by Kenyon, Reeses "Luger Tips" and Walters book "The Luger Book", then you have all that you need to set yourself on track.


The older Luger books I have avoided because the information may be dated and the photograghy isn't of the highest quality. But if you want them for a collection, then OK.


A little caution though. There has been some discussion on this forum about Jan Stills maybe republishing his "Imperial Luger" book and updating it. But that may or may not happen. Nothing seems to be official on that.
