serial # 2 Luger

I am new hear ,hope I'm in the right place. I am a dealer and will be doing the transfer of a luger with the serial number 2 at an upcoming auction . any info on the gun would help alot. I think its a 1900 model ,but I.m not a Luger man ,but I do like them alot. any help .it also has DWM on top of the toggle.I do have some photos if it helps.

welcome big brad, be careful, as every year they started a new number and if it has a suffix (i.e. a, b, c, d, etc) then a #2 does not mean much.

IF a true 1900 #2, then yikes.....

If you have a problem posting them on this forum (it really isn't very difficult) you can let us know and Ed or I will give you our email address and we will post them for you. By the way, only the military models had a letter suffix (until the 1920 Commercials) so a 1900 or 1906 will only have a number. As Ed said, if it is a 1900 #2 it will be a treat to see.

It is #2, but not the number 2. It is a 1908 variation, and has a stock lug, stock lugs were added after 1913.

It is not a 1900 model, as they have dished toggles...

The Luger is an example of a 1914 Model that has been rather heavily reworked and reblued. The date has most likely been removed from the chamber and the "Made in Germany" along with the incongruous low serial number might suggest that this is a 1920 rework performed by an independent rework facility. Or it may be a much more modern remake. At any rate, the low serial number notwithstanding, in my opinion it has no particular collector value other than as a curiosity.

The crucial information for you is the number on the front of the frame--this is the legal serial number of the gun. If it has a scriptic letter suffix underneath it this must be recorded, as it is actually part of the serial number. Any chance you can show us a shot of the frame front, and also the bottom of the barrel near the frame?

Are there numbers stamped on the bottom edges of the takedown lever and the trigger plate? Are there any marks on the right receiver?

BB, I agree with Ron W's comments above. This appears to be a hot dip reblued, probably renumbered shooter. Since you didn't mention the caliber, possibly a 7.65mm commerical made after 1923, when the US first required that "made in ---" be applied to imports. TH
