Mike, I am trying to figure out how I could come up with the money.


As a friend said, even if just as a 1900 model it is worth that.... Someone please buy it and hold it for me :D

If you really want it, I do not have an account with the auction company and really not interested in this particular luger. However, in good faith, I will loan you the money to bid on the test luger and wait until later for repayment Mr. Tinker.

Conny, thanks, I apprecaite it, but should not get myself in deeper (I just bought a new luger). And I do own a "out of range" possible Test Luger already, ;)

I one AE 1900 and one 1900 that is not an AE. Both are marked Germany below the serial numbers. The take down levers on both are numbered on the bottom side of the TDL on the left side. The one on Auctionsamrs has the TDL number on the right side of the gun. What would be the reason for the part being numbered differently from my two guns?

there was a huge discussion on AE's and test lugers in particular on Jan's forum. If I can remember, and paraphrase, that during the late production era of the test lugers the numbering location was changed, specifically on the TDL...

From what I understand, this will be covered in Jan's new book.

The serial number of this piece was listed in Mike Reese's book on the US Test Lugers, second edition printed in 1976. It was also part of the Bannerman purchase in 1910. So it has been known for quite some time. It is in a little better than average condition for an original Test piece (lots of "brown" but no visible active rust or pitting) and is a pretty good buy at $2400. The magazine is a 1920's commercial but that doesn't detract from the gun itself.

Got up this morning and it was sold already. I wanted it. Hope somebody in the LugerForum got it.

I am not sure if the buyer would want his name known, but he is a forum member.

Yep, I done did it!
I have a test Luger but it's not as nice as this one. I was debating whether I should upgrade while the opportunity presented itself and then Prof. Wood issued his imprimatur and, I said, hey it don't get no better than the Prof's approval so lets do it. Based on all the interest I sensed that the pack was getting ready to pounce so I better punch the button or forget about it.
By the way, thanks to Mike B for the link, I'd never have seen it without your posting.

I don't know at his moment but will probably offer it up. You do know that "cheap" is a relative term. :D ;)

yes sir I do. I personally like the term; "trade" and maybe some cash the best. ;)

I think you did very well Tom. I have two Test Lugers, but this one was such a good buy I briefly started thinking about how to finance the purchase. But I sat down, had a glass of wine and got over it. Really glad it went to a good guy.
