A day at the range
 

I met some nice people at the range the other day and let them shoot my Luger and 1911. The guys kid made a video of his shooting and posted it on Youtube. The luger is mine but they list the wrong year. I'm the guy with the blue shirt near the end of the luger shoot.

It amazes me that no eye protection was used by the shooters, the fly wasn't the only lucky one!

I was thinking the same thing when I met them.

They are real nice people, and I plan to meet them at the range this week to shoot some videos. I will probably get them shooting glasses as a belated Christmas present.

Chris, from time to time, I do a search in youtube on "Luger" and sort the results by date added. (I guess it's a sign of my addiction to Lugers ;) ) Recently I found your take down-videos, they are very well done and informative!


I have actually never used shooting glasses myself.. it was not common when I first started shooting, I guess I'm a slow learner. :icon501: But I'm not giving anyone the advice that they are not useful, especially after seeing various slow motion videos, they sure look needed! ..with rifles also?

Who was the moron with the camera? I'll be damned if I would be shooting film of some gum chewing adolescent shooting a semi auto weapon from a position even with or forward of the muzzel.

A Friend bought an M1 carbine and took it out to shoot it. A cartridge detonated out of battery, blew out the magazine and sprayed his face with large chunks of brass. The only reason he is not blind today is the shooting glasses he had on took the hit. Everything is fun and games untill someone loses an eye...Jerry Burney

The Luger videos are currently being edited to incorporate comments from Tom Heller. I decided to put them on youtube so we would have a common place to collect editing comments. Before this I was e-mailing them one a time to John and sending them via regular mail on DVD to Tom.

I still have to change one part of the takedown video and make a cleaning video. The cleaning video was the reason I was at the range(to get the gun dirty). Once all comments are incorporated, John S will post them here.

The guy didn't stand out in front. He has a business doing sports videos and has a ton of video equipment. The camera was remote controlled, If you look near the center of the video where the son stops to talk to the father he looks back behind him. He is retired from doing video surveillance in the casinos.

The video setup was part of the reason I went over to talk to them. I wasn't there for the 50 cal or I would have gone over earlier.

I asked for a copy of the video of the Luger shooting for my collection, and gave him the location of the Luger videos that I made to show what I am doing with my videos. We now plan to get together and make other shooting, loading, and gun disassembly videos. Hopefully they will come out better with a professional cameraman. (I just used a tripod and controlled the zoom and sometimes focus with my left hand.) Here is a picture of my video setup.

You are preaching to the choir about the shooting gasses. Next time we get together I will find a tactful way to bring it up. In addition I plan to show up with several extra pair.

Maby if a couple members post a reply to the video about shooting glasses it will make my job easier when I show up with glasses. You can post comments in youtube.

It's that one in a million chance you may have a failure of the weapon and pieces go every which way that motivates me to wear them and there have been occasions with handguns and long arms I have felt debris hit me in the face, I think from the muzzle blast. Got hit in the glasses once too from ejected shells from the shooter next to me.

I even wear em when mowing the lawn, they saved me when a rock kicked out hit a tree and bounced back and hit me in the glasses nearly knocking them off saving serious or blinding injury, and I was on a riding mower too. So at least wear them while mowing as I think it is a more dangerous activity than shooting :)

I caught the lack of eye protection too. I also noticed the shooter was wearing his hearing protection over his cap!

I tried this once and one shot was all it took! The fellow next to me (four feet) was shooting a Sig .357 and damn was it loud..... My hat came off in very short order and even then I asked one of the RSO's to move me to another position because of the teriffic concussion from the Sig.

Someone here must have left Brian comment about the glasses. He removed the video from youtube and was wearing shooting glasses at the range yesterday. :thumbup:
