Navy AE ?
 

I recently saw a comm. artillery that was said to be an American Eagle, but didn't show a photo of the chamber. Were these ever made (by DWM) and if so is there a Navy AE? If I ever saw one I'd drool all over it.

Mike, from time to time artillery lugers surface with AE's stamped on the chamber, some stamped with A.F. Stoeger on the right side of the frame. These were post WW1 items, some reworked, for the commercial market by a money needy post war Weimar Republic. I have also heard of Luger carbines, usually 1902 models, with the AE crest (also Swiss Cross). I wouldn't be surprised to see the AE on a 1920 carbine. I have never (to date) heard of or have seen a Navy luger with an AE crest. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Keep your eyes open!

Possibly a 70's Mauser Artillery. They produced a few Artillerys. However, I'm not sure if they had the AE on the chamber.

Allan's book on "70's" Lugers, shows AE versions in 4, 4/3/4, and 6" barrels, (page 29), but without 100/200m sights. The Navy commerative with 100/200m sight did not have the AE stamping.

There are comm. artilleries that were made by DWM. There's a 1920 comm. for sale now on Gunbroker with a comm. stock. Not an AE though. I don't know if these are reworked are not but if they were, the milatary style stamps would all have to be removed. I just have never seen an AE artillery or a AE Navy.

Navy Commercial Lugers made by DWM were not made for the Navy contract, and so were never inspected or proofed by the Imperial Navy. They are found with the appropriate commercial proofs of the period (c/B,U,G or lazy c/N).

My AE LP-08 sn 497 i, nicely cased with stock and all accessories by A. Steinfield Co. of Tuscon is C/N proofed and has matching unnumbered stock and "germany" markings on left rail, stock, magazines and holster.

I have NEVER seen or heard of an AE Navy and would be very careful were I to come across one.

That's what I thought. They were made for comm. sale and not reworks of military Lugers. That's not to say that they didn't do reworks on other styles though.
Tom, would you please post pictures of your cased set. Sounds like something a lot of members would love to see and of course own.

I like your thinking! If theres one out there I want it real bad. Problem is, so does everybody else. So unless I come across it myself at a yard sale, I wont be able to afford it. I like dreaming about it though.

Well it took me almost 2 years, but I found one!! Julia auctions, lot #1043, from the Doug Smith collection. It's a 3 line Stoeger Navy AE w/stock. drool drool drool.
