Black Widow grip observation

A while back I compared 3 sets of BW grips; all of which were purpored to be authentic. While doing the comparison I noticed on 2 sets of the grips, which happen to be the '41 single hole variety, there are 2 very small zeroes on TWO sets of the grips. The zeroes were in the identical spot. I am wondering if this would help as a guideline in authenticating real vs. fake. This is only on the right grip.

No zeroes on my 42.

There are two zero's on my '41 byf (right grip only) & I've no reason to think this pistol grip's been altered since issued.

Can't say what they mean, but I have noted those small "o" markings on a few known-authentic black widow grips.

Hi
My 42 blackwidow doesn't show those signs, mery Christmass to all of you from Switzerland

Fredo,
do the grips you have show a circle with concentic rings outside?
the grips you are showing are from a VOPO Luger east German rework.

Fredo 12-28-2006 10:51 AM

Hi Yes they do show concentric circle, may be I'm confused between balck widow and East Germany VOPO rework. What's the difference?

Good Question...
East Germany carried after WWII a lot of captured Lugers still in theyr Police forces. They have had special gauges to measure the Lugers when they made a 1 year inspection. They also cept the Smeisser extruded magazines producing going on and marked them with
2/1001, they made theyr own spare parts like east German side plates etc.
Most VoPo Lugers are reblued sand blasted , re numbered, numbers are x-ed out and new numbers are etched into the steel parts.
Frankonia sold them a few years ago. Probably yours is stamped at the drigger guard with a very small WWF, which is pointing the way to Frankonia trading company.
A picture of your luger would also help.

Just 2 possiblities about the little "O" 's :

1. Air bubbles that came to the surface while the resin was setting up.

2. The maker used a 2-pronged tool to test the resin to make sure it was hard enough to pull the grip out of the mold ? Maybe the left and right grip were poured in a common mold so only 1 of the 2 grips needed to be tested with the pronged testing tool.

3. Any other ideas ??????

Hi
here are somes picture of my GERMAN VOPO reworked , feedback is welcome
To my opinion the original gun was a mauser dated 1939, all Nr matching excepter the side plate. It was also reblued and has no longuer the original grip. The gun shoots very well and I paid 150£ from Ranger Arms in England some 10 years ago

And a closer look at the side plate shows remarking and a strange mark on the left bottom side, may be this franconia marking?

Pete, The thing that got my attention is that 2 pairs of grips of mine had the zeros in the exact same spot. I believe that they are not in the mold of the grip.
