Baby's first Luger, how'd I do?
I picked this up from a friend who bought it recently from an estate and sold it to me for 800.00 and I was wondering if I got a decent deal.
It is my first Luger! Yes, I know how can a 47 year old guy who collects guns say this? I never had interest before because I really did not know too much (and still don't) so I was afraid to buy one from just somebody after hearing all the horror stories about faked guns and parts etc. I am a collector of 1911's and US related martial arms and recently picked up a Mauser K98 so I was on the half assed hunt for one and this came up. I like it! http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//5...m/MVC-134F.JPG There is oil all over this gun so it may look a little shiney. http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//5...m/MVC-133F.JPG http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//5...m/MVC-132F.JPG http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//5...m/MVC-131F.JPG http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//5...m/MVC-130F.JPG It came with a holster dated 1915 Marked Vereinigte Lederw. Fabriken Berlin-1915 |
Welcome to the forum, if I hadn't said that before! We prefer that photos be hosted on this site, for the reason that many times the photos are overused and timed out or the owner deletes them. You can post here one at a time in each post, or you can use upper right and post many, as you did.
A byf42 is popular with folks who want a WW2 luger, so it fits the bill. I can not tell from the photo's if it has been reblued. If it has, then yes, you paid too much, but not incredibly. If bot reblued and all matching, you got a hell of a deal. :) Aldo, if the holster is not messed with (i.e. cut down) and in good shape and it is included in the $800, then no matter what, you got a good deal! A nice holster (brown is worth more) goes for at least $150 and many times even more. Ed |
Nice piece, kudos on your new acquisition.

Thanks, Judging from my experience with other guns it has not been reblued. it looks very nice and has no import stamping as it was a vet bring back. The guy who got it for me is trying to get the capture paperwork.
The holster is brown, here is a picture. What would be the correct one for this gun? Thanks, Marc |
Any army holster, like that one probably is. However, what markings are on the holster?
I personally like one within a year or two of manufacturer, i.e. it is a 1937, I want a 1936, 1937 or 1938, preferably a 1937. However, that said, why not the one that came with it? Ed |
Looks to me like you hit a home run with a nice black widow,If its not a reblue I would guess and comeing from me thats all it is that the rig should be worth a couple grand. Hres a link to one that sold. congrats clint

Thanks! I like it and will keep it for a while for sure.
As for the holster, Marked Vereinigte Lederw. Fabriken Berlin-1915 is WAY too early! Are the 42 marked ones around the same price? If they are would it be feasable to trade off at some gun show with someone who may have one or just keep this one because the gun came in it. Thanks, Marc |
