Rust Blueing
Well Im about thru with my first bout with rust blue and I have decided its alot of work. I now have a whole new view on what Thor must go thru on his wonderful restorations. I used a wood amo type crate for my rusting box and placed one of those candle melting dobys my wife brought with water in the dish to provide the humidity,I was getting good rust in about 4 hrs. After 5 trips thru I have decent color but its so much work I think I will stick with my salt baths. I will post a pic of the finished product later. And yes Hugh thats your old Erfurt mixmaster in there:) clint

Would a small humidifier work as well, or would that just be overkill on the humidity?

Clint,
I didn't mean to sell that gun to you---I want it back when you get thru with it!   |
I played around with what to put in the box for moisture ,this thing will empty the bowl in about 5 hrs if you go much more it starts raining in the box:) what I mean by that is water collects on the lid and drips down on your parts and that dont work out. (dont ask how I know that)
Hugh I will get right back to ya on that:) clint |
Clint, I tried it once myself years ago and that was enough. I also found that I don't have the patience and steady hand to be a good polisher. TH
