Navy mag on ebay
I saw ebay had a new listing for a Navy mag starting at $175 with $21 shipping costs. I'm still a novice on Lugers but when I was looking at it the marking and numbers appeared correct (to me) but there were not any rings on the wood base. The seller stated that it was an early mag. Any thoughts on this mag? The auction number is 160058004412

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...arch%26fvi%3D1 I think the magazine is righteous. Concentric rings appeared later. I do notice a bit of a chip of the wood along one of the wooden knobs. That may matter to some bidders. http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/nice_navy.jpg |
$21 shipping, is it full of lead?
I see some folks asking for $10 shipping on mags and think that is excessive, as you can pop it into a Priority box for $4.05.... I don't blame folks for charging a buck or two, but excessive irritates me. As an exampple, because I need to bitch about it; I bought a book off of another forum from a member and he charged me $10 shipping, then he took forever in sending it to me. And we are talking about a pamplet sized "book"... When I know he could have stuck it into a Priority box and shipped it to me. eD |
Pete, thanks for letting me know about the rings coming later. When I saw no rings I'm thinking it wasn't correct.
Ed, I agree, I'd ask for less shipping. Brent B. |

According to my memory of a discussion on Jan Still's Forum a couple years ago, the concentric rings appear on the earliest blueprints for the P-04 Navy Luger. There is a 1917dated Navy pictured in Imperial Lugers with a matching, non-ring magazine (numbers run lengthwise), and I think Still mentions the later, non-ringed mags in the text (no time to find it right now).

I agree with Dwight. The plain mags appear later. I have a 1917 with original matched mag that is plain.

Thanks, Guys...for setting me straight.

Jan Stills "Imperial Lugers" page 192, says that "Those for the 1904, 1906 and 1908 variations bear (sic)concentric ring bases, while SOME OF THOSE (emphasis added) for the 1916- and 1917 -dated Navy Lugers bear (sic) plain magazine bases".
The bidding could go crazy, if you have the matching Navy Luger. Big Norm  |
