Grip Screws

I just bought a very nice 1916 DWM and am having trouble getting the grip screws off. I do not think they have been off in years and so far have defeated my efforts to remove them. Any ideas so I don't mark up the top of the screws? Thanks, Curt

be very careful, use a screwdriver head that fits tightly into it. You can tap the screw driver and that usually works, as a final thing, you can heat up the screw driver, while it is pressed down on the screw, being very careful you don't use flame, etc that could mess up your grips.

Curt,

Drop a little WD40 or Liquid Wrench on the threads from inside and let them soak for a few hours. Place a screwdriver that fits the slots into the slots and tap the top if the screwdriver handle a few times to help loosen the threads, then try to unscrew using downward pressure on the screwdriver to keep the blade from jumping out of the slot. It is imperitive that you use a screwdriver with parallel sides to the blade (a gunsmith screwdriver) and not the common household type with the tapered blade.
