1938 S/42
 

Gentlemen,

This has been a good Luger weekend; after getting the byf 42 on Friday, I bought a mongrel 1938 S/42 today. All matching apart from the breech block, magazine, firing pin and barrel. The barrel is 3.9" and was installed for a competition. The blueing is almost too good to be true so I guess it has been very nicely refinished. (Edit: "Gesichert" is not in white lettering - should it be?) Should I try to get a correct barrel or just keep it as a shooter? I have a pretty good hunch about the marking on the firing pin, but I would like to hear your opinion as well.

Is there really nobody who can offer any advice on the "Gesichert" white lettering and the possible barrel change?

1. The Geischert was always marked at the factory
2. Changing the barrel would not change the value, as you bought it as a changed barrel for competition, value would be the same in the USA (although a 6 inch or 8 inch barrel sells better)

Balder, Good looking shooter. I doubt changing the barrel would enhance it's value, as you would still have the mismatched BB assy. The unusual location of the Imperial inspection C/R on your FP, leads me to believe that it is a WW1 spare part. TH

Thanks for your opinion, I think I will keep it as a shooter.

My first thought when I saw the marking was also Imperial WW1, then I realized that it is the stamp of Kongsberg V�¥penfabrikk, the Norwegian state arsenal and gun factory (which also produced Krag-J�¸rgensen rifles and the M/1914 version of the Colt M1911). As far as I know, the only Luger parts made at this factory were barrels, but I am looking into possible FP production.
