The front sight has what looks to be a very sharp band indicative,I think, of some K-dates.

I have been watching this Luger through three cycles of the auction. I have researched it, talked to other collectors, etc. No one knows what it could be. Other than it ain't a lunchbox gun. The frame is , I'm almost certain, a Mauser or possibly a Krieghoff. And I agree, the band has the sharp angle as on early Mausers. The "Lazy N" right side proofs are also odd.

The seller says that it's 9MM. From the angled view of the muzzle in one photo it looks like a .30.

The very limited view of the witness mark gives me the impression that the barrel is not original.

I have been watching this pistol also,the grips looked like someone may have resharpened them a little to me and the pin on top of the toggle bothered me as it looks like it is white and mabe sticking up a little.

Hi,

Barrel replacement would be a suitable reason for this gun to get reproofed in Germany, either before 1940 or after 1945 (DDR).

There is a good chance that this pistol started life as a fully unmarked specimen, receiving both a serial number and proofing after a barrel replacement later in life.

As this photo shows in some detail. The barrel that this gun now wears is slightly past the witness mark on the receiver... so this barrel was either removed and then re-installed and the gunsmith turned the wrench too far, or the barrel is a replacement from another gun. The extractor notch is also off the same amount as the witness mark...

the chamber area is not uniform in its polishing... it appears to have been ground off... and the bevels normally on the sides of the toggle are almost non-existent which implies that the toggle was ground down...
