ID Magazine
I have a Luger magazine that has 2/1001 on the side. Can anyone tell me what this is? era, etc. The Magazine is in a 1940 42 code Luger. It looks like a type 3 according to Still's book but I can't find the 2/1001 in any book to identify. stumped.

east german (post war).
they called the p08 and its magazines the 2/1001 ed |
Thanks Ed. Looks like I need to find a correct Mag for my 1940 42 code Luger.

If your PO8 is a DDR rework and the 2/1001 mag is numbered to your gun, I would consider it correct. If not, the correct Nazi issue mag would be the same type extruded shell, but marked with a code 122 and a couple of E/37 inspectors marks. TH

Hi,
The East-Germans used suppliers numbers, kinda like the Germans used the 3-letter codes before and during the war. The East-German supplier numbers (lieferernummer) were 4-digits long. '1001' was the number assigned to the former Haenel works. Haenel also produced a version of the Walther PP/PPK, dubbed 'pistole 1001', again referring to Haenel as manufacturer. I have not heard of a proper explanation of the '2' on the magazine, but my best guess is that it's there to distinguish between the magazine of the Pistole 1001 and that of the P08. |

My Luger is Proofed 655. Still's book says type 2 or type 3 for a 1940 DWM Luger. You are correct, 122 E/37, but I am a little confused. I would think the mag should be proofed the same as the Luger. But what do I know, I will obtain the 122 E/37. If any one has one for Sale or trade let me Know. The suffix is "b" or better yet if you have the # 5983b that would be a match. Thanks to all. Tom |
Tom, in that block (5983b) either a type 2 with E/655 or a 122 E/37 would be correct!
I have a 1940 "b" suffix, about 3000 numbers below your pistol, with a matching magazine and it's a Type 2 E/655. |

Would you consider a trade and/or cash for the magazine? I have the Post war 2/1001 hanel mag to trade. I didn't quite understand the last part, do you have the matching Mag? Thanks Tom |
Frank
I read your message again and you are telling me that you have a 1940 Luger with a matching mag. I misunderstood what you meant. Sorry, I guess it comes with age. Anyway, if you come across an E/655 let me know. Thanks Tom |
TAA, The closest that I would have is a Code 122 Schmeisser #444m with some scattered light pitting on the tube @$90 + $5 S&H. Tom
