Ive Finally Found One!
So i have been looking and looking and i think ive finally found a Luger, i have been searching for a Luger since like....... a year now? or however long ive been a part of this board. anyway the gentlemen who wants to sell me his luger lives here in the state of good ol Indiana. So no FFL stuff involved as to im happy of that:D However he called his Luger a "parts" gun, i.e he says the barrel, the grips, and i think the springs have all been swapped out with new stuff. However the gun comes with two mags, a loading tool, a hardshell holster, and the Luger itself. it looks in really good condition seeing i have been looking for a shooter grade type Luger, he is asking $450 for it. and im just currious if this is a good price on a luger with that much stuff changed out?
p.s will try to post pics of it asap. |
You were looking for a shooter Luger, so if you can stuff rounds in the handle and launch bullets out of the muzzle you will be paying a good price. Once you have swapped out one major part, e.g. the barrel, then it becomes a "shooter" and it is moot how many more parts are swapped out as long as they are functional.

The tool, magazines and holster are worth $450. The pistol is just thrown into the deal.

Jerry! Not so fast! I went over to look at a Luger once advertised with a holster and it was crap. Could be a $39.00 repro..fake $8.99 tool and a $20. Mecgar mag. Have to look first!
Even if it is $450.00 is a smokin deal for a shooter if like Ron says, it will launch bullets! Could be like Jerry says too....Jerry Burney |

Also can anyone tell me what the writing on the left side means?
|
looks well worth the price. I just an optimist at heart and do get taken at times.

When you say taken, does that mean im getting screwed over if i buy this? >_>
|
You are the only one that can judge that. It has been heavily buffed. As a rep piece the price is reasonable. Nicer shooters sell for $600+ anymore. I would be tempted at $450 for this, although you could offer $375 and see what he says. That said, a repro holster is worth $25, an extra mag is worth $20, so you are only paying around $400 for the gun.
It is your decision, either you want it or not ;) and if you want a nicer one, then you have to pony up the extra money. I saw a nice erfurt yesterday for $950 at the gun show... Ed |
It's not really the point of it looking nice that concernes me just being able to know it will fire when i pull the trigger. But still... im currious as to what that writing is on the side.... It that an import mark?
|
sorry, meant to include this;
NO IDEA :D If we could read it, then yes, maybe a import marking; maybe a guys name, too hard to tell. Not normal on lugers though except on a few guns on ww2 guns that were inscribed by a GI... |

Hmm...i think i have another pic of it close up......But not sure if anyone can still read it, cuz i can't >_< |
If it shoots $450 is not a bad price. Everything around here is $650 or higher for a shooter. As for shooting you do not have to worry about lowering the value due do parts breaking. Some people like the shiny blue look and you could make a trade. As a first luger and a shooter I would get this gun. You will later come to enjoy the oringinal lugers and begin forking out $1000 plus. These guns shoot the same but are original.
As for geting taken, I have been a couple of times when buying on line. Not bad but did not live up to the discription as I read it. I always want to see the good in everything. Thats why I enjoy this forum so much, they will tell you the truth and give excellent advice. Jerry |
The printing on the left grip frame flat is the import mark. Although it is not in good focus, the lower line appears to me to be CAI St. Albans VT
which is one of the marks used by Century Arms International, in St. Albans, Vermont... I can't read the top line at all, but it is probably something line Luger P.08 and the importers inventory number. The real serial number is the one on the front of the grip frame above the trigger guard... and it includes a small alphabetic character under the 4 digit serial number that identifies the batch number for that serial number. |
What happened to the trigger guard?
