Double date & double S#
Hi all,
I have a 1920/1916 DWM w/ military proofs. It's a shooter. S# 7759 receiver, togggle assembly and extractor match w/ 59. The S#7759 on the left side of the receiver was stamped through, but still easily readable. No attempt to grind down, file or hide in any way, just stamped through with horizontal lines. Then a second S#2315 was stamped directly below it w/ slightly larger fonts that are offset a bit. Every time I look at it, it drives me crazy. Does anybody know the reason why anybody would do this? The frame doesn't match either S#. Thanks for any input, Mike C. |
Mike, I have a navy turned police that also has its original number crossed through, although there is no secondary number.
My feeling / WAG is that there was another gun in the same arms room and they wanted a seperate numberd gun for keeping track... Ed |
Edward,
Now I like it. "Official" not some bozzo trying to do "who knows what". Now, thats MY story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks very much, Mike C. |
