Some pics of my Luger

Here some pics of my BYF 42, has considerable wear to the finish, has been touched up with black paint at some point but most has gone. The chap I bought it from said that the grips were very worn so he had them re cut (?).The gun is nice nice and tight, just the side plate is a little loose, but the toggle takes a fair bit of effort to pull. De act of course......:(

Hello and welcome to the forum! Nice gun. Grips were probobly re-checkered. To bad the old girl has been de act (better than being destroyed though!) , I still love to marvel at my Lugers! They are a masterpiece. Congrats!

Panzer, I've seen several British proofed lugers with this black enameled finish. I have heard that this was an option offered by the proof house when having war trophies proofed for legal registration. Any idea of the truth of this rumor? "Tally Ho" and all that rot, TH

I can't see any British proof marks apart from the de act ones.TTFN

If you want to see the steps taken by the UK government to deactivate the Luger pistol... go to the Member Gallery and search for either "deactivated" or "tacfoley" until you find the album with the photo essay by tacfoley on the sterilization of one of his favorite Lugers when his country banned handguns...

it is enough to make a grown man cry... in fact, I know he did.

Interesting link John, thanks!
I'm glad I didn't click on that link if late at night and alone, that sure would bring me some nightmare..
I have handled a deactivated Luger here in Norway to, but the deactivation was is not that extensive.

Anyway.. you still own a piece of history Panzer!
