A Scarce Reichswehr Item~
 

WWI Feldposts are relatively common. Available on eBay on a regular basis. This one , however is fairly rare. A Reichswehr Feldpost dated Oct. 1920.

dort. Schreiben A No 59808 Tagebuchnummer 1004 v(om) 23.10.1920
betr(ifft) Ger�¤tedepot SUWALKI ist zust�¤ndigkeitshalber an die
Abw(icklungs) Stelle d(es) Gen(eral) Kdo (Read Kommando) Landw( ehr) Korps bei Abw(icklungs) Stelle Inf(anterie) Regt (read regiment)51 Breslau weitergesandt worden.

the letter No 59808 diary number 1004 dated from october the 23th concerning material depot SUWALKI is forwarded to dismissal command
of the Staff of Landwehrkorps (of the former imperial army) attached to the dismissal command of (provisional Reichswehr) Infantry regiment 51 in Breslau, due to competence.

The name of the captain could be Koch

Suwallki ist a little town close to the border to K�¶nigsberg (now the Russian Kaliningrad). In October 1920 it legally belonged to the newly founded Poland. It is not clear to me, whether Suwalki was still occupied by German troops in October 1920 on their retreat from Russia.



A communication sent concerning the reorganization of the Reichsheer. During the reformation of Freikorps units into the Reichsheer. There were as many as 110 Infantry Regiments comprising 400,000 men.

Circa 1920, the Reichsheer was reorganized and reduced to 21 Infantry Regiments under 7 Infantry Leader commands or Divisions, each with an attached Artillery Regiment and Pioneer Battalion as well as service / support units. There were also 18 Reiter Regiments. With the Reichsheer reduced to a total of approximately 100,000 men. The Reichsmarine comprised approx. 4,000(?) I believe.


Being a Reichswehr collector. I feel very fortunate to have found this.

Ron, A fascinating piece of history. I just finished a book called Hitlers Heralds, a history of the Friekorps. Really interesting to know how extensive this Army was and how many engagements they played a part in. If you do not have a copy I will send you this one if you will send it back...Let me know, Jerry Burney

I appreciate the offer, but I'm not notorious for returning things in a timely manner. It not on purpose, but often get sidetracked and forget.

Another good book is "The Reichswehr and the German Republic 1919-1926. By Harold Gordon Jr. It's long out of print, but if you find one, it's worth the price.

I will look for a copy of Hitler's Heralds. Thanks!
