Portuguese oiler/steel rod
I have a Portuguese marked oiler/steel rod made for 1935 GNR Lugers. I need a commercial oiler /brass rod for my M2 rig. How much is mine worth(nice not mint) and how much for a com. oiler/brass rod (nice not mint)?
Thanks for any input. Mike C. |
Mike,
I see rods like yours goi for $175-200 on ebay and at shows; seldom see a commercial one FS, but there are a flock of very high quality repops that sell for about $100-125. Really difficult to tell the difference from an exterior view. Tom A |
Thanks Tom, I really appreciate the info.
I'd like an original but I couldn't tell the difference from a repo. Could you explain the things to look for. I assume by your statement the difference is more on the inside of the oiler. Thanks again, Mike C. PS. If anyone else knows the price range for an original, please let me know. |

Pat,
Thank you for sending the photo. The theads are clearly different. Also the strap (thick part) around the fake oiler looks wider than the original. Could you verify this for me. An exact measurement on both would be extremely helpful. It could just be the photo angle. Is one of your originals for sale? Thanks agian, Mike C. PS. I love the rubber band trick, as I'm very low tech. |

Here is another style of repro oiler that is available at USA gun shows. I paid $ 75 USD for this one about 2 years ago.
Notice the checkering pattern on the lid is not there, but rather vertical grooves/lines only : http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/repro_oiler_1.jpg http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/repro_oiler_2.jpg |
Just ask and you shall receive.
Wow, you guys are great. Thanks for doing my homework. I'm sure you've saved me money and future heartache. Many thanks, Mike C. PS. I still don't know how much an original should sell for. Anybody? |
I have seen them in the $ 150-200 price range at USA gun shows...for original ones.
