-   -   Caution-possible altered serial number on Auction Arms Artillery

I urge caution if you are bidding on this weapon. The item located at the link on Auction Arms appears to have an altered serial number.

This seller claims that the gun is all matching serial # 11.

But the photo in the auction shows what appears to be a line on the front of the frame like that which would be left if the frame were shortened by filing it down so it could be restamped with the #11. (see the horizontal red arrow)

The rest of the photos are too fuzzy to compare the stamps for similarity of the stamp font.

the inset photo of the right side of this gun also appears to show that the receiver (barrel extension) protrudes longer than the frame... (see the vertical red arrow) which is another indication of the frame possibly being altered to be "matching" serial numbers with the rest of the parts.

Know your seller! Know what you are buying, and be sure you have return rights if the item is not what it is reported to be...

You would either need some very good pictures of this pistol, or have it in hand to examine. Depending on what the barrel and receiver serial numbers look like, possibly the pistol was 11a, but the receiver sure looks doctored and this may have been the part needed to restore the pistol. It would be interesting to see if the receiver rails have also been cut back to match up with the frame.

There also appears to be another indication of a problem.

Notice closely --- the two numeral 1's don't appear to be parallel this is a common error in hand stamping numbers, and are they the same size and matching the numerals on the barrel ?

Look very closely at all numbers on the Pistol for such indications of possible meddling .

Re; SHARP EYE!!

John, Sharp eye!!! I got out a Luger and compared the salient points. Sure enough! Must be suspicious. Good advice too. Jerry

After closer examination of the photo on the Auction Arms Arty. (that has the arrow covering the cutaway frame on this Web Site). I have the impression that the cutaway seems to be cut heaver at the top causing the surface to be out of square with the rail.

( This Don't Look Good to Me )

This is the type of thing I would have never even given consideration to. I am the trusting type and this is a great lesson for all of us when we are attempting to give away our hard earned money to some crook who is in the business of cheating us out of it. If you paid $1500.00 for this pistol and discovered this deception you would be out some serious money. I noticed the serial # being slanted too....Must be a hand job in more ways than one..Thanks for a heads up I never would have thought of John... Jerry
