Parts to swap on collectable when shooting?
 

Recently picked up a 1917 DWM and was lucky enough to have the numbers matching. I'd like to shoot it, but don't want to destroy any of the matching parts. I found a thread earlier that recommended replacing certain parts before shooting. I can't remember them all:

Grips
Extractor
Firing Pin

What else? Hold open?

I would think ejector and holdopen should also definitely be replaced for shooting a collectible... (not a recommended practice, but I understand your desire to try it...)

Right there with you bud! It is NOT a good idea, but what good is a FIREarm your not going to FIRE! Unless you plan on selling it. I have a DWM 1917 and went through the same thing. Before I shot it, I replaced the hold open, firing pin, grips, extractor and mag. Don't no what kind of mag you have, but better safe that sorry. My hold open did not match, lucky enough to find a matching from luger doc! So know if it breaks, Know that you can find one, NOT EASY! But it can happen. Like I said, better safe than sorry, if shooting is a must, replace the parts and HAVE FUN!! Sean.....

Put a firing pin with the gooves you can have on last ones. It will prevent the rear of head to break (where the firing pin guide locks) if a primer is destroyed. In this case, the pressure will not push the firing pin, and you gun will stay safe...

As the only Luger I own, a DMW 1917 with all matching numbers.........
maybe I should swop the parts mentioned - the hold open, firing pin, grips, extractor. etc but living in th Uk gives me something of a problem
I take it that these parts are readily available in the USA?

I have the opportunity to buy another DMW 1915 maybe I should grab that too?

DCCUK, If you have a legal registred Luger, I can't se how purchasing spare parts can be any problem? The parts are fairly easy to find.
(I have these items for sale, but will not sell if things are not according to law..)
