Nice red nine grips

..........

I thought that only C96's had the red nines on their "broomhandle" grips.

Red nines were cut into some LP-08 grips when WW1 unit armorers misunderstood the directives to do this to the 9mm C96 Mauser broomhandles to distinguish them from the smaller caliber variety... Some LP-08 collectors like them for their historical value... but to me they are a waste of a good pair of Luger grips (IMHO) I have no idea if this pair is bogus or real.

The open "9" is curious, on every C96 grip I have ever seen, the circle of the nine is closed, which if course does not mean it would have to be the case on a LP08, but the LP08 with red nine grips shown in Datig (page 124) also has a closed nine.

I've seen them in all shapes and sizes. The only iron that I know of in use today is of the more common form with a closed loop.

Logically they have to be genuine. If they were faked they would be copies of an original, thus closed. If the wood is stamped on the back and is correct as to date they are probably ok.
