Luftwaffe
Hi another newbie,
Just wondering how rare luftwaffe marked lugers are? and are there several different models? and is there a good link to reading the markings to work out whats what? Thanks, Matt. |
Most luftwaffe Lugers were made by Krieghoff... While we have many markings listed on this website, you should find and read a copy of Randall Gibson's book The Krieghoff Parabellum... try http://www.simpsonltd.com
they may still have some... and BTW, welcome to the Lugerforum. |
Thanks for the welcome, I need to clarify what I have so I'll try and find a copy of that book.
Basically my dad ws clearing out my grandads house when he died and found it packed in grease and wrapped in a cloth, I never knew he had it. Would be intrested to find out about it. but the first thing I need to do is find out where I stand with the law. Will getting it de-activated reduce its value? Thanks again. |
Matt,
I am sorry to hear that you live in the UK... Getting it deactivated will definitely lower the value in the rest of the world, but in the UK, you will be fortunate if the authorities will even allow that at this late date... they may just confiscate it... I hope not. Someone who can surely advise you on this matter is a fellow member that lives in the UK. His screen name is Tacfoley. Do a search for posts by him and send him a private message. The link is in the top right hand corner of each page of this site... and so is the search link... He was required to eliminate a lifetime of a gun collection when they were banned in the UK... he is painfully aware of the law and the consequences... If you go to our homepage http://www.lugerforum.com and visit the Member Gallery, you will find a photo essay created by Tacfoley on the actions taken by your government to deactivate one of his favorite Lugers... the pictures tell a story that is tantamount to nothing less than the destruction of a piece of history... If you are allowed to retain this Luger, it will have to undergo the same permanent unreversible surgery that emasculated his Luger... Good Luck and post photos of what your Luger looks like and the markings if you get the chance... with sincere regrets for your situation, |
"My God" Just keep it buryed away. Otherwise it will surely be destroyed
|
The Toggle markings will inform one as to what it is exactly(the markings on top of the gun, just ahead of the two round knobs)and the date above the chamber will identify the year of manufacture...Cheers Mate!!(from a bloke from Winchester now a Luger collector/Dealer in Canada!!)

Ok, thanks for the advice.
|
Thank you very much Terry, I've PM'd you back.
|
Tac (& ig) Kudos to you once again old friend.
Thank you for your sage advice to a new member in the UK... hopefully you have outlined a course of action that will save this piece of history from wanton destruction by the UK government. |
John D. Take Note!
If you know any way to save this very nice looking Krieghoff from destruction in the UK, please jump in here and offer some guidance! Thanks.
|
Yes all advice is welcome, and thanks again to Terry for the help, I'm a lot more clued up than I was. My main priority is to inform the authorities.
|
Thanks Terry,
|
Authorities to be contacted ASAP, so as to ensure the Kreighoff stays intact.

I lightened up the photos a bit so Members could see a bit more detail :

Tac I hope "TO GOD" with your great advice you have "SAVED " this unbeleiveable treasure. And that the powers that be allow this rare gun to survive.
|
This is one disturbing thread. I normally just read this forum(to learn a little), but I'm glad you have all rallied together to help this gentleman. I know that if my fellow citizens were to lose perspective and pass such draconian firearm laws that I just couldn't bring myself to prosecute the offenders. Good luck to you in saving this piece of history.
