Navy rig assembly
 

I am in the process of assembling a Navy Frankenrig using my 6" commercial shooter and a CMR repro navy rig. Added to that I need a repro stock, but first I would like to know how the stock was/is attached.

I figure that the butt end of the stock has slots cut into it for threading the holster straps through so that the stock is then fixed to the top of the holster, but what about the wrist of the stock? Is it left to flap against the holster or should it be somehow strapped to the holster using a loop as in Arty rigs? I am guessing that the stock did not have to be removed from the holster to clip it to the pistol.

Was the rig worn with just the cross shoulder strap or was is also coupled to a waist belt?

Fabian, The toe of the holster was attached/held in place actually on the Imperial Navy stock by a circular strap . The strap was screwed to the stock wrist with a large steel washer and a wood screw.
Very similar to the Artillery rig but the Navy toe strap does not have a metal stud in the top as there is no boot on the Navy to protect the stock metal.
One other difference..The Artillery toe strap had three rivets at the bottom holding the strap together. The Navy is sewn in this area.

The stock is attached at the top with the shoulder carry straps. The easy way to do this as some people find rigging this complicated it to prepare thusly.
Place the holster stock block in the slot in the stock. Hang the carry strap around your neck. Both ends in front and in your lap. Face the holster away from you and the 4 stock slots will be facing you. Thread the ends of the straps into the top slot, down into the holster stock block and into the bottom slot towards you. Pull towards you and adjust for fit. Pretty simple actually.
It is best to attach the toe strap last as the holster needs freedom of movement to put on the straps.
The stock and holster remain together as the pistol is removed from the holster and affixed to the stock for fireing.

Let me strongly caution you that the use of a shoulder stock with a 6 inch Commercial Luger would violate the National Firearms Act of 1934 and be a federal felony UNLESS before you own ALL of the required items you file the necessary forms and pay the $200 tax for "making" a short barreled rifle... or SBR.

Authentic Navy Lugers have been exempted from the NFA registration requirements and tax because they have been classified as NFA Curios and Relics... Regular C&R guns do not qualify...

In other words, You can do what you want, but in reality you must get ATFE approval it will cost you $200 more than you have budgeted, and the gun will forever more require that the NFA transfer tax $200 be paid every time it changes ownership...

Whatever you decide... please keep us up to date in photos :)

No problems with detachable stocks here John:D Nevertheless a good warning to others.

They do however have a strong aversion to folding stocks on rifles, those have to be fixed in deployed position :grr:

I have a good reproduction Navy stock that you can have for $160 plus shipping. Or if you and he can make a deal, I can ship it to Jerry Burney and he can attach leather to it and then send it to you.
