1941 Lugers
I am going to look at a few lugers in a few days. 2 are 1941 dated, one byf the other code 42. Not knowing a whole lot on the subject, I believe that there were some 41 / 42 lugers produced, is that correct. If so is there a group of serial numbers that these should fall into. Just need as much information as I can. Thanks

Fazer, yes indeed there are 41/42 Lugers. The following is approximate, but pretty close.
41/42 - 2600n to 4500o with some in the P and Q Blocks (very few). About 12,400 produced 41 byf with 2 WaA E/655 - 4000o to 4800 no suffix. About 120,000 produced, 41 byf with 1 WaA E/655 & 1 WaA E/135 - 4800 no suffix to 7000 no suffix. About 2,200 produced. 41 byf with 2 WaA E/135 - 7000 no suffix to 2300b. About 15,300 produced. WaA = Waffenamt Marks = Right Receiver Inspection Marks Hope this helps!!! |
Frank, thanks for that. It is a help. I take it, by numbers produced, that the 41/42 is more desireable, or do the lower number produced 41byf become more saught after. Or does it not matter at all. I am talking in generalities, that is the guns are in similar condition and matching. If there is a premium for one over the other, are we talking 10%, 50%. Just looking for some guide lines. Thanks again.

Fazer, if someone is not an advanced collector of Mauser Military Lugers, all 41 byf Lugers are the same!! The only difference is in the WaA Markings. So then the 41/42 Lugers would be more desireable than the 41 byf. However, the 41 byf with different WaA Marks are more difficult to find!!
My guess is the 41/42 or 41 byf with different WaA Marks would command a 10 to 15 percent increase in cost, for collectable Lugers for the same quality pistol over the double E/655 marked Luger. The double E/135 marked Luger is 5 to 10 percent above the double E/655 marked 41 byf. Having said that, I have seen 41/42 near mint Lugers with a price tag of $3000. Gulp!!! Good Hunting!! |
I'm new to forum, been reading as much as I can. I'm looking at the code 42 in 1939, 5xxxs can you tell me what the serial number range is in this model?
