Any modelers here?

I saw this posted on another forum and thought you all would get a huge kick out of it.

Check out the last couple of pictures for the perspective... :)

Really incredible what the human mind can do if the fire is in the belly. Jerry Burney

Incredible detail! The locomotive is a Deutsch Bundesbahn camoflaged 2-10-0 in what is known as "large scale". Some of these size models are actually live steamers and the modeler can ride on them. The detail in the figures is amazing. I wonder if they are available commercially, or the gentleman skillfully "kitbashed" the whole thing. Being a model railroader also, I can really appreciate this stuff. I have never seen anything like this in any of the American train model magazines. Wish I could translate the Russian!

I have been a modeler since I was about 10, but never tackled anything like this. This an outstanding and time consuming display.

I like to do battle damaged and destroyed tanks, or what are referred to as "knockouts" by modelers. Here are three that I started and have yet to finish due to lack of time and patience. They require more detailing and dioramas need to be designed and built.

Glen, I must have missed that one. Of course, all you can see is part of the holster but it's there, isn't it... Good eye... :)

Ron, those are amazing. Very nice work as they are... When I was a kid I'd do a similar thing to many of my tank models but not to that extent. Very nice work... :D

Ron, Really amazing work..Do you start with a kit an knock it out? I have always been interested in doing this stuff but never had the time. Jerry Burney

Ron Smith 09-11-2006 11:21 AM

Hi Jerry,

They are Tamiya 1/35th scale kits. Then I will sometimes referrence actual photos or just use my imagination.

It is very time consuming and requires infinite patience. One reason I haven't finished them. The older I get the less I have. And the time doesn't seem to be there either.

The train layout at the beginning of the thread must have taken years to complete in that detail. You would have to dedicate endless hours to it.

Ron
