Are Any Of These Real?

1 Attachment(s)
I was offered these grips today. At $80 per pair, they are not cheap. One set is a "pair", the other is not. Do you think any of these are legit?

What are those holes for in the one set and why do they look like different wood?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Capt Emo;

The only grips I have seen with the holes in the back like that were not original, I believe they are holes for a duplicating machine. The grips I have observed with the holes were all very well fitting and matched wood however. These grips are different because they are of different wood, and although they look old and worn and have inspection and sn marks, I am not sure of their authenticity.

The other pair are nice original WWII Mauser grips and probably worth $80, although with the stain I'd try to talk him down a little. Often dark water stains like this can be bleached out.

How does one go about bleaching that black mark out of a grip?
thanks, efm

Mix laundry bleach 50/50 with distilled water. Lay the grip on a flat surface in the sun and drop some of the bleach solution on the black spot. You may have to repeat several times depending on how fast it evaporates.

You can also bleach the whole grip by putting some of the solution in a shallow pan and soaking the grip in it in the sunlight. Takes 30" to an hour to bleach out good, depending on the strength of the sunlight.

Hugh,
Would you recomend this on "overall" dark grips? I assume my grips are dark from years of dirt and oils from hands and lubricants not water spot stains. My pride and joy is 100yrs. old.
Thanks,
Mike C.

Thank you Hugh,
I will try that!

On a more serious note, I'll try what you have suggested and post my results. It may tak awhile as there is no sun in Cleveland now. Maybe not until April . . . .

MFC,

No, I would not, only use as a last resort to remove black water stains or to make "blonde" grips. To clean grips I use Simple Green, which is a de-greaser that can be found at auto supply stores and Wallmart. You can also use Murphys Soap.

Tac,
I love your humor. The old lady hates it though.

Hugh,
Thanks for the info.
