What Unit Could This Be?
On Gunbroker Auction,
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=52676191 Is this what the seller claims? |
Hairy,
Nope, the seller is wrong. This is not an SS marking but SS markings are sexier and sell for more money than standard police markings. According to the 1922 Prussian Polizei marking protocols, the pistol is marked to the Schutzpolizei of D¼sseldorf (S.D.) not the Sicherheitsdienst of the SS. A standard police marking on a standard reworked police pistol. This pistol had nothing to do with the SS. |
Thanks; it just didn't "feel" right. Appreciate your help.

what an idiot seller .... I get tired of these "SS" markings... ;)

The other apparent mistake is that it is listed as 7.65 mm. I can't imagine that a Luger that started life as a 9mm military weapon, received the 1920 property stamp, was issued to the Schupo and remained in police service at least to 1934 was rebarreled for 7.65mm.
Looks like a pretty nice example of a Schupo Luger, though, despite the screwed-up description. |
