Another Hero Passes...

My father (John Sr.) who turned 87 yesterday, has been admitted to the hospital in Philadelphia with what appears to be the onset of kidney failure and a possible minor stroke...

He remained the night for observation and has within the last hour been moved to ICU... so they can watch him more closely and begin preparations for dialysis...

I have prepared myself for the worst, but realize that he has lived a long and good life, and if his time has come to meet his maker, I would appreciate your prayers that he would indeed come to accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior before his last breath occurs...

He has rarely permitted discussion of such things, even with his sons. I would also ask that you pray for his speedy recovery from this setback... His mother (my grandmother) lived to be 96 with a similar health history...

Because he was on blood-thinners, there is a significant risk in performing dialysis, but since the alternative is to just allow him to die from kidney failure we have no choice but to proceed.

Thanks in advance to all my friends for your prayers and support in this very emotional time for me and my family.

God Bless you all, and also all the other WW2 vets who are also approaching the end of their lives here on earth with us.

-John :(

May God be with you and your family in this process. I lost my mother 3 years ago to brain cancer. I brought Hospice into the situation, and they were so helpful. When the proper time comes I recommend everyone conside the help that Hospice can provide.

Strider 07-18-2006 02:16 PM

John,
I will pray for him as well as for you and your family during this time. Having just been through the same a couple of months ago I fully understand.
The prayers of friends and family really do help.
Take care of yourself.
Sid.

John, I echo Richard's suggestion. Hospice is a Godsend. They can accomplish things the Hospital cannot . A truely great orginization and worthy of our support.
I hope your Father is comfortable. Best wishes and Ellie and I will be thinking of you...Jerry

John, in this trying and difficult time, I will be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

stymie (John), we lost my father in law unexpectadly 4 years ago, we still miss him. Stay strong, it isn't easy and won't go away, think of the fond memories and maybe it will make it easier. But be prepared, you'll see someone in line or on the street every now and then, and you'd swear it was her (or him) ...

John,

For your father, in my prayers each day until his recovery.
For you, John, through this difficult time, in my prayers as well.

Read to him the words of Christ from the Bible. Read the Psalms that express God's grace.

My own brother accepted the Lord all over again, after many years of backsliding, the day before he passed.

The Lord be with you and your family,

Russell

John,
My Dear Friend, I am so sorry to hear of the Final Life Decisions that You are now facing.
My Prayers are with You And Dad until the final Roll Call Up There.
My father once told me that, "There are No Athiests In Fox Holes".
As another veteran Awaiting that Final Ringing of Taps, I know and fully believe that "All Who Call Upon The Name Of The LORD Shall Be Saved", and There Is No Power That CAN REVOKE THAT.
I stand upon that Faith And Salvation Until The Very End when we shall gather for the Final Retreat.
