victory S&W question

I have a victory model, smith and Wesson, it is parkarized, and has the v prefix, it has the flaming bomb on the but near the serial number, but no united states property on the top strap. all other smith address on the bbl. but no us property. has any one seen this on us purchased smiths? I was under the opinion that if it had the flaming bomb on the butt, than it was a us purchased gun. is this the case? thanks

kunta,

That's a very nice looking S&W Model 10 M&P, one of my favorite handguns. By chance is the barrel marked that it's chambered for .38 S&W, while the cylinder is a replacement in .38 S&W Special? If so, it was originally made for the British, but wound up staying here. That might explain it, but tac is the one who might know best.

I will have to check to see if it is marked 38 special, I have to open the gun safe later today and will peak at it. I thougt is said 38 special. but thanks for the info.

It's been years since I've seen one, but I've seen two Model 10s very much like yours with their barrels marked 38 S&W CTG, not 38 S&W Special CTG, no US Gov. Property mark, and they both had cylinders chambered for 38 S&W Special. Both owners told me the same story about the pistols having been originally made for the British, but then fitted with 38 S&W Special cylinders though the barrels are clearly marked 38 S&W.

found out is was sent to civil defence supply, ordered by the us gov. but not for the military.
