Refinishing & removing pitts!

Hi All,

I have a old S&W Model 10 that I bought back from the guy I sold it to years ago.
He left it in the back of his Jeep for three or four rainstorms here in Augusta Ga. It's humid here in Ga.!

The pistol worked, but was a rusty mess. I have taken it apart, the barrel is off & the lock works are in a plastic bag.
I have spent about 21 hours so far, on polish out (most) the rust & pitts.

I think, I see the end of the tunnel. It had a really nice old style bright S&W blue on it. Hoping to get something close to it later on.

I have even more respect for THOR's handy work now.
Cleaning up a pitted pistol is lots of work by hand. It can only be done that way to keep all the lines flat.
He has to be really patient man with fingers of steel.

Thor your the MAN!

Broomhandle,

Get some Dicropan IM from Brownells and give that sucker a nice rust blue. It is easy to use and gives a very nice blue job.

Hi Hugh,

Thanks for the reply!
The gunsmith has bluing tanks, thats what he uses.

He wanted to just blast it and blue it. I was hoping to restore it to some thing close to what it was before.

I will finish polishing it, then try to decide how to finish it:confused:.

I have been thinking about boiling the parts & slow blue & card off the rust, with the stuff from Brownells.
I know it will take time to do it ,but the blue looks so much deeper.

Be safe,
broom
