That`s right folks!

Here on the left coast around the SF Bay WalMart has stopped selling ammunition for firearms. That's what I was tolled two weeks ago in Union City. I missed it by one week. :mad:
As a result most of the gun shops around here seem to be out of Winchester White 9mm 115gr. Here's hoping that the problem stops here. If it goes nationwide...:grr:

Walmart has also decided to allow each of its stores to decide whether or not they will continue to sell firearms. I don't know if this will apply to ammunition, but they estimate about 1/3 of their stores will stop selling rifles. Your San Fran ammo issue may be a reflection of the recent gun ban within the city limits.

California is also trying to stop the sale of ammuniton the maiil. If your a California resident, write your state Senator and Assemblyman.

The WalMarts in southern New Jersey don't sell guns or ammo and I don't believe that they ever did.

It appears that the decision is made on supply and demand. If a store don't sell enough of a particular product they discontinue the product. This time the product is guns and ammo.

The fact that WalMart paid over 14 Million in fines for gun law violations in the last three years doesn't help either.

On a positive note maybe sales will increase at the mom and pop gun stores that are still in business. Some of them could really use the business, and I have not found a WalMart yet that had a gunsmith.

tracyp. I'm in Calif. as well as you. I'm in the SF Peninsula, however I'm not aware of a bill in either the House or State Senate banning the mail order sale of ammo. . Could you post who is trying push such a bill. I'm in trouble if something like that would happen as much of my ammo comes from out of state. Thanks,

Perhaps all members should inquire at their local walmart store to see if this is local or corporate policy going into effect... then please report back here so all can get the big picture... it might be time for a write-in campaign to alert corporate management that we have other shopping choices...

...and if the NRA is not aware that this might be happening, we might want to pass on the word to them as well.

Wal-Mart here in the California desert town of Ridgecrest still selling ammo and at a good price...

Assembly Member Alberto Torrico (D-20) has sponsored a bill that would cripple the rights of Californiaâ??s firearm owners.

Simply put, Assembly Bill 2714 would codify into California law a ban on the sale of ammunition through the mail or internet.

Action is critical, as AB 2714 could be up for a vote in the Senate Public Safety Committee next week!

Please contact the Senate Public Safety Committee today at (916) 651-4118 and ask them to vote â??noâ?� on AB 2714!

Here is the latest action added to the bill.

A seller of ammunition may comply with this section
by requiring a carrier to obtain the signature of the purchaser and
view bona fide evidence of identity and that the purchaser is 21
years of age or older before delivering handgun ammunition shipped to
an individual within this state.

They have not outlawed it yet just made it more costly. Here is a link to the bill as of last admendment

tracyp; Thanks for that information. I was unaware that it was in the works,I'll have to get on this tomorrow with the phone call. Do you know of any active groups working to oppose the bill?
Dumb Calif. legistatures... Wal-mart in Carson City, NV is still selling ammo. $11.00 box of 100 9mm

Talked to the sport guy at Wally and his opinion is that the high crime spots in the bay area are quiting the ammo sales. Where you need them the most you have the least.

Wal-Mart is still selling ammo in Ohio. As of yesterday afternoon, the only notice the sporting goods department of the Wal-Mart here has had concerning ammo, is that Winchester white box 38 Special 135 gr. FMJ will no longer be sold in both 50 and 100 round boxes. After they're sold out of the boxes of 50 now in stock, they will only be available in boxes of 100. That's all they've heard here, and believe they will be selling ammo for the foreseeable future.


P.S. Of interest to some: I picked up on a box of the Winchester white box 9 mm Luger 115 gr. FMJ, (which is also only available in boxes of 100). I'm planning to take that not so severely pitted byf 42 to the range with me next time I go.
