Full cycle - empty chamber

I recently purchased a 1938 S/42 shooter Luger. The magazine that came with the gun had a very light spring and the gun did jam a couple of times during the first 50 rounds. I tried a blued MecGar Magazine which had a stronger spring and the gun cycled and fed perfectly for the next 50 rounds with only one exception. Twice the action cycled completely but did not feed a round. Not knowing the chamber was empty I wound up dry firing the gun twice, which I know is not good for the gun. This error occurred once with each magazine. Am I correct to assume that a stronger magazine spring made by G.T. will probably solve this minor problem?

I was shooting Winchester 115gr.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

Were there any rounds left in the mag when the problem occurred?

Yes, both times.

Definitely try a stonger mag spring... that may cure the problem, but I would also look at how loose the mag to mag catch fit is... if the mag sits too low because the notch is worn or misplaced, that could easily cause your failure to feeds.

As strong as the MecGar mag springs are I doubt that you would find much difference with a new mag spring, and those MG plastic bottoms are difficult to install. Sounds like it's time to either try some other more powerful ammo or a softer recoil spring. TH
