Military P08s from 1942-1945?
I wonder which factories that continued to produce military P08s after Mauser stopped in november/december 1942?
By this I mean a "genuine" production, not just assembly of guns from parts already made and lying around at the production line. I think I saw something about Krieghoff P08s made all the way up to 1945? Is that correct? Thanks in advance for your help. |
byf43, yes, you are right. Production of Krieghoff ended september 1945.

Thanks. You don't happen to know who actually got these pistols? Heer? Guard service? Or something else?
Any idea how many were made 1943/44/45? |
Generally most Kreighoff PO8s were issued to the ground forces of the Luftwaffe (flak batteries, air station security, etc.). Most flight officer had their privately purchased handgun and enlisted air crew were issued non German made pistols (FN22, CZ27, Femarus, etc). This was probably more for their psycological benefit, than for actual protection, since most air crews shot down, never survived the crash. If they did and were in enemy territory, never made it home. It's a long swim from Britian to continental Europe. TH

Krieghoff 1945 Production
Since hostilities ended in early May 1945, one would think that the Luftwaffe would not have received P08's after late April. Also, who would want to buy new pistols with so many having been turned in my the German forces?

Hello,
Just to add that Mauser started again the production of P08 and LP08 under French control (August 1945- October 1947). According to August Weiss around 3500 P08 were assembled using spare parts in stock. The LP08 were assembled using WWI barrels and/or Mauser contract (Persian, Siamese). If you want to see a few pics please look at my web site and click on "LP08 made under French control". Cheers, Mauro |
