Value Check, 42 1939 Luger

Hello, Gents. A fella I know is looking for the value on a 42-code 1939 dated Luger. All matching serial numbers including the magazine. He hasn't broken it down, but for now we'll assume any internal numbers match as well. He also has a holster with it which still has a small tool in it.

I collect German rifles, so these pistols are a bit of a mystery to me. Is there anything special this guy should look for? Would the holster be numbered or connected with the gun in any other way?

I'm hoping you fellas could steer me in a good direction as far as value goes. These are the only pictures I have:

That one looks good. Do you have pictures of the holster? O thought you were only into G43s.

If the pistol is as nice as it appears to be (mint bore, original finish, matching mag, etc.) it is worth about $1600 to $1900. As for the holster and tool, a 655 marked tool and a correct holster in excellent condition which matches the pistol can add another $300 to $400 to the rig. If it had a second matching mag you can bring the value up to near $3000.

I'm the friend mentioned in the OP. The gun is totally mint. It hasn't been fired since my dad's boss has been married, at least 40 years. It has two magazines and a tool in the holster. I don't have it at the house now or I would take more pictures. It came from the body of a German officer when dad's boss's stepdad took it. It's a beautiful gun.

EDIT: The magazines match in serial number. I haven't broken it down because I'm not well versed and don't want to somehow hurt the gun, but my assumption is that, since it hasn't even been used for so long, that none of the parts have been replaced either.

Also, this is the best picture I have of the holster. The other stuff in the picture are the other things my dad's boss is trying to sell. The P38 is in great condition too :)

The one on the top right is the Luger, top left is P38

More edits: I'm dumb. I had a picture of the holster still on my camera that I didn't think fit in with the thread I posted at another forum. It's of the holster. I don't know if the holsters are numbered because I didn't check when my dad had the gun here, but here's how the holster looks outside.

Damn. It all looks very nice.

Although the 42 code is among the most common of Lugers your example is very, very nice. Two matching mags and a great condition holster? Son, it don't git no better than that... :)

I'd put the value at $1,500-2,000, but I'm no expert. It may be worth more, especially if it has paperwork...

Jordon, there is a p38 forum that is a sister of this site. P38's are worth less than lugers, but I would guess the "rig" is worth at least $800 or more. I'd be interested as many others here probably are.

:)

Welcome to the forum!

Ed

Thanks guys, and thanks Abisteen for posting pics of the holster. These fellas here are the best when it comes to Lugers.

Captain Emo, I am into G/K43's. They're my babies. Lugers are neat, and I'd love to pick one up some day, but I'm not sure if I want to spend the money on a Luger that *could* be spent on another G/K. ;)

Also, looks like imageshack took a dump. :-/

Those Lugers make you want them!

If this Luger comes up for sale, I would be interested to know that.
