After months of trawling through this very active forum in general, it is time to get stuck in. I have just got hold of beeeooootiful dwm commercial to add to my collection. Note my collection is not of Lugers, but more of a collection focusing on the different mechanical systems for small arms, gotta admit, Lugers are up their with the weird and wild. Anyway, I was not looking for the cream of the crop all matching numbers etc, just a good sound example that I could take to the range with a clear conscience but found the 6" barrel configuration was my personal favourite in terms of aesthetics, but I don't have the means to invest in a Navy.

In I go to my local gunstore to stock up on black powder (other hobby :D ) to see in the display case under the till a 6" DWM Luger in fine condition, after a check over to make sure she was fit and healthy I made her mine :p

Number is 1013l with visible numbers, visible N under crown proof on receiver and rear toggle link horizontal with crown pointing towards barrel, extractor clearly marked GELADEN, chambered for 9mm Para, standard rear toggle sight, barrel is a modern un-numbered replacement, but very well done, I also suspect that it has been reblued, oddly, the breechblock is the only part with a different number (not counting barrel).

There is also a strange symbol on the left side of the front toggle link, it is not very well struck but I will try to get a good photo of it.

This sounds like a very interesting gun, I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. It will be interesting to see if this is a grip safety gun, long frame or short, and receiver mark. Is there a number stamped on the bottom of the locking lug underneath the receiver?

On the underside of the receiver between the lug and barrel there is the number 3, lug itself is surrounded by two small 'z', an 'F', and a larger 'U'. The 'U' is also repeated on the breechblock.

I do not see any evidence that it ever had a grip safety.

Why did you say the serial number is '10131'? Looks like 1013 with lower case L. In print that would be 1013l, so maybe that's what happened. Makes a big difference, because a five-digit number would be a commercial. Yours is military. The 'strange mark' on the front toggle member is the typical eagle. That's a good-looking Luger, and I have to admit I like the long barrels, too.

In my first message I did write 1013L, only the 'L' was in a different font, sorry for the mix up :rolleyes:

So it is a military one? How come it has so few proof marks? Any idea of the age? The eagle looks more like an octopus to me :D.

What would be the right magazine bottom for this? I have one unmarked mag which looks very new, it has a wooden bottom with the concentric circles on the lugs.

Was just looking at the suffix info, the L could also be an E, opinions?

Fabian, The eagle on your replaced breech block, is an Erfurt firing proof eagle. Your frame could well be commerical, after the 1923 switch from all numeric to the military style of serialization, if your suffix letter is indeed an L. To my eyes, it appears that it might be a "b" which would make it a military or a rework of a WW1 military. TH

It shoots wonderfully with 140gr S&B subsonic, now I just need to get hold of some mec-gar mags to preserve the old one.

You have a very beautiful gun. I too like the longer barrels. I have two 6 inch guns. One is a stainless in 9mm and a Mauser Parabellum in 7.65. My wife also thinks that the longer barrels look better than the 4 inch ones.

I have looked and looked at the suffix and the suffix chart listed and I am convinced it is an L suffix, it is definately not a B and the loop is too tall to be an "E". How come there is no date stamp on the chamber?

I would really like to know when it was made, is it a 1923 commercial? The original barrel length was still 6" (as posted in the military P08 thread, it has been built into a .22 kit), but it isn't a commercial navy since the rear toggle link has the standard fixed sights. I also thought the commercials had 'hidden' parts numbers...
