YAML 5-Lost Battalion

The Lost Battalion 2001

The fact-based story of a battalion of the 77th American Division trapped in the Argonne Forest during WWI. Late in the action a prisoner is returned under a flag of truce; the soldier escort is carrying a P-08, seen in a long shot and gratuitous closeup.

Programs like this generally pride themselves in their attemts to maintain detail accuracy, but in this case they overreached themselves. It is easy to see that in this WWI drama the magazine in the gun is aluminum-based from the '30s, as well as the blued small parts from the same era, and has VoPo bullseye grips from the '50s.

Dwight, many times they try and fail. When I was in the Netherlands, there was a Dutch made for TV movie on WW2 and specifically on Overloon. I was in the movie, you can see my legs walk past once and another time all of me was in the background. They used Garands that each solder was issued, they asked for US soldiers / airmen to be in it, and about 10 guys volunteered and showed up. Several were black guys, In WW2 blacks were in the army, but not in combat units at that time. An inaccuracy, that I believe was probably known by the producer, but I think they felt better on-screen realisim, even if not true.
