What is ATF and for that matter, any other law agency, requirements to keep guns under lock and key? What type of lockable storage? Same requirements for C & R as non-licensed?

Also, are many forum folks C & R licensed?

no federal requirements, might be city requirements, but I am pretty sure not for where you live.

I bought a good safe, keep them in there, also got insurance, for just in case, now I sleep better (and the big dogs I have and I lock the basement door)...

How many forum folks are C&R Licensed? No way to tell exactly, but anyone who collects WW2 era and earlier guns is foolish not to have a C&R license... it pays for itself the first time you receive a gun yourself instead of paying a FFL holder to receive it for you... It is only $30 for 3 years and it includes new copies of all the printed documentation you need to act legally and periodic updates from the ATF when issued. Just remember that it is a COLLECTOR's license, and NOT a license to engage in the business of buying and selling firearms for profit... Get caught DEALING in C&R firearms with a C&R license instead of collecting and you will get an all expenses paid stay at Club Fed...

You guys don't know how lucky you are, in my part of the world it's the Victorian Firearms Act 1996 which reads in part

"3. Firearms collectors licences
(1) The firearm must be storedâ??
(a) on premises or a part of premises which is a permanent building with secure locks on all openings; and

(b) in a roomâ??
(i) the walls of which are solid enough to be a substantial physical barrier to entry; and
(ii) any window of which is covered by security bars; and
(iii) any door to which isâ??
(A) of a solid material, or is covered by steel sheet or reinforced by firmly fixed steel mesh; and
(B) fitted with a lock of the dead latch type or an extra hasp or barrel bolt and padlock which is of such a nature as to reduce the possibility of the door being sprung from the jamb; and
(C) hinged with concealed hinge pins or with hinge pins which are welded to prevent the pins being removed; and
(c) in a containerâ??
(i) which is made of steel or any other robust material; and
(ii) which must be firmly fixed to the wall or floor of the room; and
(iii) the doors of which are attached with concealed or welded hinges; and
(iv) which, when any firearm is stored in it, is locked with a lock which is so constructed as to prevent the doors of the container being easily sprung.

(2) If more than 5 firearms are stored on the premises where the firearm is stored, the premises must be fitted with a monitored alarm system of a class approved by the Chief Commissioner.

(2A) The key to the container in which the firearm is stored mustâ??
(a) be carried by the holder of the licence; or
(b) be kept securely in a separate room from the containerâ??
when the container is not being accessed.

(4) Any bolt or firing pin which is required to be stored separately from the firearm it is a part of, must be stored in the same manner as is required for the storage of a firearm under a longarm licence for a category A or B longarm."

Mostly the same in Norway as Australia.. Kinda strange dough, that there is more than 80 000 military firearms in norwegian homes, such as A3 rifles, glock and mp5 without the requremens of storage.
..and btw, getting a collectors license here, is VERY difficult. And if you get one, it's only for a very limitid area, such as only ww2 lugers. :\

Recently I did apply and receive my C & R license. It was easy!
I just did check the ATF Reference guide and under 923(d)(1)(G), guns are required to be in a lockable storage. The subject is covered in detail. Just states if you are licensed, you are required by accepting the license to havesuch storage.

I also wanted to see if there were other "gottcha" laws.
