Value of LE Police Sneak?

I bought this one several years ago and just had to have it back then. I did post pics of this one so apologize for the redundancy. I was pleased with what I learned, but we never did talk value back then. So now I am interested. While I don't plan to sell, I am curious how it has appreciated in the past 24-30 months. Curious what you think for value.

This rig is a total, original match. The holster, two mags, and tool (not shown) are numbered to the L.E. 136 unit.

Thanks...Bob

Bob, I am hesitant to give you a value... but that is ONE RIGHTEOUS LUGER RIG!... I will let the serious collectors venture a guess on the value... that gun is WAY out of my league... I am sure it has appreciated at least 30% since you bought it...

beautiful, I am sure a rig as righteous as this would bring in excess of 3k.

I was thinking 2200-$2500, but if my cheap friend Howard :D says 3k, then, boy, oh wow...

Just a tad more info... I checked my books and bought this one about 22 months ago for 2K. It was at a local live auction and I just "had to have it" given the completeness of the rig and condition. Looking back, I'm delighted to have it tucked away and it probably will be the only 2 matched mag Luger I own.

I know prices have jumped and a possible 3K+ value is a very good thing. I'd venture to say Simpson would have it at in that neighborhood++.

If you want your 2k back, I'll Fedex you a MO this afternoon....:)

I thought I was blessed with my double date police that matches down to the holster and ONE mag, but your rig is over the top. Well bought and IMHO as good as it gets for the breed.

Due to some fantastic offers (a one owner M1C to name one) that I am considering, I have been considering selling my Police rig so the value you get out of yours will reflect on mine, but what a nice rig you have!

Jack (and others)- Thanks for the kudos! I'm guess that the police Lugers saw less "work" and are more likely to have remained intact than military Lugs re: the 2 mags. Regardless, this ole boy was wowed by the completeness. Jack, I'm sure you have a great one too and good luck with your sale...B

I believe that is a remnant of a "mag safety" devise which has been removed. Perhaps required for police Lugers and then abolished. I hope I have this right, but if not, someone will assist...

Dwight Gruber 01-05-2008 06:38 PM

Bob,

You are quite right. Magazine safety mandated in 1933, rescinded with an order for the device to be deactivated (very often removed) 1937.

Any chance you could report the full serial number with suffix?

Dwight-- this is an s-block, 6550...

Bob, yours is a top-of-the-line rig as far as police Lugers go. That having been said, your comment about police Lugers being subjected to less hard use than military types got me to thinking about the relative rarity of two matching mag rigs. I would list four categories in the following order of rarity, beginning with the rarest:

1. Navy rigs
2. WW I military rigs
3. WW II military rigs
4. Weimar military rigs
5. Police rigs

Can anyone add to and/or refine these categories?

Edward Tinker 01-06-2008 02:49 AM

for germany I think you have it down pat. The other countries that used lugers were too diverse for me to attempt a matrix....

Bob,

Thanks much for the number.

I think WW1 rigs should be divided into 2 categories: DWM and Erfurt, then down to P08 and LP08's.
